Thanks Scott.

I am in flux with my kit right now. I am thinking of swapping some lenses around, selling most, buying a few. Here is my current kit:

Series E 28/2.8
Series E 50/1.8 x2
Nikkor-Q 135/2.8
Nikkor 80-200/4.5 AI
Nikkor 35/2.8 Non-AI
Nikkor 50/1.4 Non-AI x2

I am thinking of only keeping the following:
Nikkor-Q 135/2.8
Nikkor 35/2.8 Non-AI (going to convert it)
Nikkor 50/1.4 Non-AI (going to convert it)
Purchase Nikkor 50-135/3.5 and 28-50/3.5

What do you think? I need to lighten my kit a bit and some of my lenses I don't use enough to warrant keeping them with my small budget. I know a couple of you

Kevin, I see many overlapping focal-length's, but no real wide-angle-lens. I don't know if it would fit into your budget, but how about a neat 20/4 Ai or 20/3.5 Ai? Both lenses are smallish and pretty light.

Hi Kevin, I like the third and fourth images in this series. Nice conversion in the third and I like how the white background sets off the flower in the fourth.

Tough choices Kevin. I have experience with both the 28-50 and the 50-135 zooms. They are both very nice. I especially like the 28-50 for its compact size, sharpness, and contrast. The 50-135 is equally as good (check out some of Leightons posts with it), but a little large for my hiking kit.
Whatever you decide, have fun.
Scott

Kevin, in my opinion you can't go wrong with either of the zooms you mention. Look for one in EX shape when it comes to the 50-135. It'll be hard to find one where the zoom/focus ring will be dampened properly, but it's not a deal breaker if it's not. They are both rated well by Bjorn and they work very well with each other. The thing I like the most about them is their color and contrast output. I'm not sure if you shoot jpeg or raw, but if raw, you'll have to do a little work in post to get the most out of them. They hold up VERY well to whatever you through at them in post.

Spring has finally arrived over here - lot's of work to do in the gardens (not for me, I prefer to capture the progress:-).
This one is from yesterday evening, the sun was very deep already and I didn't correct the low contrast caused by some flare.

D700, 180/2.8ED wide open - tried a ColorEfex film-preset (Portra 160NC)

Scott, I totally agree with Georg's very good comment.
Framing and composition with a 28 are demanding but also rewarding especially for this kind of image.

I hate to take pictures during classical concerts - my DSLR's are way too loud for most concerts and the completely silent Nikon V1 (in electronic shutter mode) is challenged at higher ISO-settings.

great catch, Georg!

That'll work as well. Curtis has already agreed to come sit on the porch and drink some beers. The more the merrier!

This is like saying that Curtis will sit on the porch and shoot with Af lenses.

To be realist Curtis will drink a bottle of fine wine or an aged exclusive kind of brandy...

Leighton, I'd love to jump over the big pond for a visit of your fine country, but that's just not possible in the near future.
Maybe Curtis can help you out on the beer-front (Mihai, if memory serves there was a MF-Nikkor-meeting in Florida some time ago, beer was involved, Curtis too ;-).

Tried an old and fairly scratched Nikkor-S Auto 50/1.4 on a D7000:

buds von georgsfoto auf Flickr
D7k, Ai'd Nikkor-S Auto 50/1.4 at f/2.8, Nikon PK-11A and a simple Nikon #1 close-up-lens
Played a bit with film-presets in NIK ColorEfex, so far I like the faked "Kodak 160NC look"...

I have no doubt that he's a connoisseur... (isn't this a French word?... ) But he merely takes pictures with wine and brandy... But with a roasted lamb at your porch he may take a 'meter' of free good beer

BTW Georg... in Florida Curtis met with Reagan and Ray and he had to follow the local culture... "When in Florida do like Reagan" is Curtis' philosophy When at home, Lapharoig, Bourgogne and so on

Chris, welcome to the thread. This is a very nice image to introduce yourself, I love what you did in the conversion. Don't hesitate jumping into the fray as we're all lovers of these wonderful lenses. You probably have already figured out that some of us like to talk as well as shoot.

really like how the color seems to be bleeding into the table cloth - maximum saturation. The lens definitely does get you vivid colors, and the softbox lighting doesn't hurt

Georg, just a sunburst test is more than just a test, well done with the PP. The 28f2 bokeh is wild, I enjoy looking at it occasionally but definitely not something I would want in my shots often.

Good luck on the finals Laura. I find a little goofing off actually helps the brain.

Scott, the farmhouse composition is odd to me. I would have included more of the tree, but even then the space is a little too large for my taste between the house and the tree.

Kevin, I would suggest something wider than the 35mm (I actually like at least 24) in your remaining kit, but then again you know your preferences. Since you don't seem to mind (actually enjoy) older lenses, non-ai 24's show up fairly inexpensively.

Will actually get to join (modestly) in the flower picture parade from some stuff this morning, have to process when I get home tonight.
