I took a slew of shots with the Nikkor-Q 135mm f/2.8 over the weekend... Wide open, exceptionally hard to nail focus. In fact, I don't think I have a shot yet (through the viewfinder) where I have nailed focus wide open. Now, once I stop it down to about f/5.6...man, whole different beast. Lovely images that are tack sharp. One particular shot gives the impression that the DOF @f/2.8 at MFD is only about an inch, maybe 1.5 inches. Does this seem about right from what you have seen with the 135? Hope to have some images up tonight from my last group.

Mike, can't get enough of the lights but just my 2 cents. I think they would look better without the borders

I'm thinkin' I will be selling the 24mm and 28mm ƒ/2 AI and a 35mm ƒ/1.4 Non-AI. The 35 is redundant, I have a factory AI'd version and the 24 and 28 have to be stopped down to ƒ/4 to get rid of the flare around the stars and planets.

I will replace the 24 with a Nikkor 20mm ƒ2.8 AF-D and use it for Aurora and Real Estate work. It will give me a 90° FOV plus will work with speedlights for interiors.

No I won't be parting with the Noct. It's only shortcoming is that it is 58mm.

Some fun on a rainy day. In between down pours I put the 105mm 2.5 P on my D600. I was really surprised how much I like this lens on full frame. It has gone from a lens I was never too fussy about to one I really enjoy using. The only downside is that I wish it focused closer. I guess I now I really understand Curtis and his tubes

Ray, nice flowers and butterfly on a rainy day! Its raining here too, but no flowers yet, although the cherry blossoms are somewhere around the corner And looks like fun St. Patty's day entertainment.

Mike in Alaska, your northern lights photos have been terrific.

Reagan, your first OOF picture has neat bokeh.

Chin, very cute. Don't think my cats will go for that, treat or no treat

Tony, very nice Nikki set. The graffiti-pano and the bicyclist are my favorites.

Alan, very cute pictures, and you are in for a some busy times

Jose, thanks for posting the links to the history to go along with your excellent series from Pompeii!

Sam, great captures of the comet.

Ronny, very nice work with the 180, seems you and the lens are quite a team.

Peter, very nice pano.

Curtis, cool new aqcuisition. I find the 35mm a very convenient general walkaround FL.

Scott, I will step carefully, they are sure sensitive I actually lived in Atlanta a couple years and enjoyed the city and the state of Georgia.

Rafael, good story and a tale of caution. I am paranoid about my camera strap hanging over an edge and getting yanked down to the floor. I do set my cameras for autocleaning on startup. I do have a spot or two that I have been too lazy to clean.

Leighton and Laura, hope both of you feel better very soon.

Samy

Love your close work with the D600 Ray. I'm not surprised that you'd find a new relationship with the 105 not that you're shooting FX. I own four lenses at that focal length, at least in part because I love it so much. Of course, NMFAS which has been much discussed of late, probably had something to do with it...

I visited a friend his morning and saw these flowers as I was leaving. I had to walk to my car to pick up my camera so I could take a few shots. I mounted the 135 f/2 AI-s, first with the PK-13 extension. I later took the tube off. Here are two perspectives of these flowers.

Shot with the PK-13 extension tube at f/8.

Shot without tubes at f/2.8.

Great work with Nikki Tony. As I reflect back on all the outstanding photos contributed to this thread by those who've spent time with our Australian sweetheart I feel a bit daunted. Interestingly, I mentioned that she will visiting the San Francisco Bay Area shortly. My friend a few days later gave me a roundtrip ticket for the Larkspur-San Francisco ferry. I mentioned that I wanted to spend some time in the city and she thought this might a great way to do that. I've never taken this ferry, so Nikki is inspiring me as well. Hopefully, I'll find something along the way of interest...

Mike your Aurora Borealis photos are breathtaking. You honor us by sharing them on this thread. That they were taken with the wonderful MF Nikkors we're celebrating here is inspiring. You mention modifying your kit, selling a couple of MF lenses and adding the 20 f/2.8D. I wonder it you can't get where you want to go with the 20 f/2.8 AI-s. I ask selfishly, because the MF lens would permit you to continue sharing these images, but the AF lens doesn't. I imagine you have your reasons. If you're using it for real estate work there may be some appeal to having AF.

Keep em coming Mike...
