Peter, now that's a fantastic portrait! Excellent B&W and a really lovely smile. Did you use a bounced flash?

Yes indeed, very nice.

Thanks for all the comments on the ceramist-portrait!
Jose, usually I would indeed shoot portraits like this with the lens wide open. I'm still a bit challenged when it comes to focus the 24/2.
At f/2 the 24/2 is notably softer, but every lens I own is sharp enough (in the center) for environmental portraits, as long as I manage to nail focus...

Some shots from today - we got fresh snow and I couldn't resist to de-bag the 16/3.5 for some cheap thrills ;-)
All images taken around the same spot - a small area between the old city-wall and a former convent.

Peter, like the portrait, well done.

Georg, love the first 2 especially. I think I'll be getting that snow tomorrow or Tuesday which is going to be a shock after a week of warmish weather.

Philippe, I don't know how I missed the opera house shot but only saw it thanks to Scott reporting it above. Wow and Wow again.

Reagan, like the shots by the water. Those pelicans seem pretty unbothered by the people so close. I don't know what 73 is in Celsius but looking at that snow Georg is sending to me it's looking very inviting.

I don't know how you can go out in weather like that. I would just hibernate all winter. In fact I don't see many other people out in his winter shots

You have to be careful the minute you bring in a fish the pelicans are after it

It's the anti-freeze we put in our blood. Some use ethyl alcohol, others caffeine, while others cocoa of some sort. I use copious amounts of adipose tissue located in strategic places.

Seriously though, it's all about getting used to it. My grandfather was known for rowing a boat across the Niagara river in a wool suite in the summer time without breaking a sweat. I am known for being the least dressed during winter outings as I tend to run very warm.

Every time I take one of these...the line up changes. Shot with the D800 and the 50mm ais, but missing a few additions.

What are all those things in the picture that move the focus by themselves? Are they easier to use?
