Since the dandelions keep coming up in the yard, I might as well put them to some good use.
EL-Nikkor 63/2.8 N reversed on bellows; D700

Single shot this time. Not stacked. I think there’s enough dirt on my sensor to grow a vegetable garden. I hope I got most of it cleaned up in post. I’m always extremely careful when changing lenses, keeping the camera pointed down. I think racking the bellows in and out draws in dust with the air. That’s one reason why the old D700 is the only body I put on the bellows. The other is that when doing stacks, the file size with 12 mp sensor is smaller. My 13 year old computer bogs down crunching gigabytes of data for the final image.

Likely the 6/7 difference. Though I’ll give Nikon credit for keeping cameras functional I don’t think they care to redevelop new process for the old processor. The Ex7 has had better MF aids for a while now, if they haven’t brought those to older Ex6 cameras I don’t know why they would do these now.

Do you mean because they are all about the newer models or because of the Expeed 6/7 difference Matt ?
Presumably all that's involved is temporarily assigning the function of selecting the aperture value to save in the exit to the appropriate spare dial (front or rear).
I also note that v3.1 has the zoom to focus function cancellable by half pressing the shutter which cool too.

After spending yet another weekend carrying the Z5ii through woods and trying to get shots of elusive targets, I'm not sure a dial for saving the aperture would be particularly useful. In fact it could be misleading, like swapping a 200mm with a 55mm and forgetting to dial in the lens selection.

At least with all my lenses through the FTZ, I could never take the time to set it. I'm always going full aperture for focus, stopping down, then shooting, and hoping the target hasn't moved during the past two seconds. Even with, or especially with, the 300mm f/4.5 AI-S I need to be quick. A nice Z-mount AF zoom would solve that problem but then, it wouldn't need a dial to save aperture.

Today's pics, only the first one moving especially fast. 300mm f/4.5 AI-S

We believe this is a Hairy Woodpecker, similar to the Downy, usually slightly larger and with a larger bill compared to the head size.

Dad. (Yeah, I know enough with the heron shots, okay? But they are such magnificent birds. Especially in flight, slow, graceful, deliberate wing beats.)

We watched him fly back to this nest. I named this pic Heron and Chick but my sweetie (in the next pic) thinks it is Dad and Mom, that a chick would have its mouth open wanting to be fed.

Agreed Jim, for your wildlife shooting it is not going to be of use and for lots of people who think that Wide Open is the only aperture you should use on a classic nikkor.

Personally I'm used to shooting fuji now so never record lens or aperture info (although I have the P.C. 28/3.5 on 95% of the time anyway)

Some people take a notebook out with them and write all this stuff down, or certainly used to. (Im thinking of Old people, not me, I'm only 58 😄 I mean some people keep a book noting their gas milage for years and years.

I shot a couple of shots today with 3 different lenses and recorded the lens and f stop but perhaps the novelty will wear off, we shall see.

Andy

PS love the heron, I remember them from the UK, don't have them here or Australia.

Souped 14 rolls of color film recently, and some of them were iso 800 tungsten color balanced film, So, I picked up a 85B color correction filter for outdoors, but just shoot it straight indoors. A couple more with the N90S & Fuji 200 and 400 using a bunch of lenses, but these were 35, 55, 105, & 400mm.

Thanks.

I remember all the take-a-notebook chatter from years ago, no, make that decades ago. Ain't gonna' happen! I'd forget most of the time, or wouldn't have the time most of the time. And I'm only 19 years ahead of you, so the "Old people" rule doesn't apply to me either.

Nice Ferrari pics!

James Markus, great film pics! The woodpecker shot tells me to put my camera down, walk away, and nobody gets hurt. But I ain't gonna' do it any more than I'm gonna' take a notebook out into the woods.

Meant to say this before, I think it's really cool to have ready access to a heron rookery.

Yeah, I never got the ""carry a journal", I'm already thinking enough about stuff much less carrying a journal in everyday shooting. I did make notes when I was specifically testing a lens or concept that involved aperture or shutter speeds, but that was not too often. Digital has spoilt me, and then Nikon went backwards with the FTZs.

Looks delish. I think Barb is just making you wait so the bread lasts past the oven cooling down :-)

Jim, Since you are shooting mirrorless I would recommend focusing at taking aperture to avoid focus shift. Most of my lenses are subject to that and it makes a small but noticeable difference.

Test your lens for that and see if some are not affected in which case you may continue to focus wide open. Of course if the shift is minimal it will be absorbed by the increased depth of field but this is not always the case.

Variation in focus is mainly between wide open and f4,5 or f5,6. So you could focus at f4,5 and then close to f8 or f11 if this is your intent.

You are probably aware already that there is a "Film Is Not Dead" forum here. I recently revived my film camera and one given to me. I've been learning the scanning process, doing it all manually. I'd be interested in anything you learn!

And of course, welcome! FWIW, I'm just a newcomer here by some standards.
