I've taken a lot of pictures like that. Mostly unintentional though.
I see your point... This one is half intended. It is a crop of an otherwise sharp picture of an uninteresting flower. Upon review I preferred the blurred background.

Harsh lighting for a prickly subject. This agave has drawn blood more times than I like to remember. Time to move it indoors since it won't survive our soggy Pacific Northwest winters. It weighs 34lbs. I just checked it.

The Blue line goes out to Revere, I used to go out there all the time on the Blue line to go to Revere Beach, back when it had amusement rides along the beach. Never went on the roller coaster there. IIRR, they eventually tore down the rides and put in condos?
Well, the Blue Line still runs up through Revere to Wonderland. We don't get up that way very often so I can't say what it looks like. However a quick trip up Google Maps street view shows condos and more condos. And houses with a water view that would probably be expensive except that they get pounded or flood whenever the ocean becomes angry enough.
The TV news reporters still love to stand out in dangerous places and warn people not to stand out in dangerous places.
Riccardo, great photography of The Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls. Thanks for the link, enjoyed reading its long history. I was not aware that this is the location of Saint Paul's tomb.
Took these the day prior the start of the Cannes Film Festival. The Carlton is popular destination for the stars and directors.
Colin, I'll throw in an Aston Martin DB12 with the McLaren GTS.

figured out the problem with the D700... batteries. both the one in the body and the one in the grip. got two third party battiers for the grip, and off we went Saturday night to the annual event downtown.
I wanted to ask a bit of weird question about lens "transparency".
I recently got the CV 40mm f2 ultron sII (n). I love the form factor on my fm2n. I love the build, I love the sharpness and the focal length for walkabout.
But when I look at images of it compared to my old nikon 50mm f1.4 AFd, it's not as "transparent". It's like there's some weight to the images, some dingyness, some grunge, but it's not like fringing etc.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about. I want something a little more transparent for my nikon (film) camera since the grain already adds some grunge/dingyness.
But I want something a little better than my 50mm f1.4 AFD with manual focus around 50mm.
I wonder if the 58mm f1.4 CV has the same issue, I got a slight feeling that it might. And it's a bit longer than I want for general purpose. Do I just get the Nikon 50mm f1.4 Ais for the improved manual focussing?
I'd like to keep something that goes to f1.4 as an option, but the 50mmf1.8 is running through my mind as well for being a bit sharper wide open so possibly easier to focus, from what I've heard.
But just about the transparency, is the CV 55mm f1.2 the one to get for non-dingy portraits? Possibly too big for ideal walkabout. Too hard to focus wide open (on a film slr - sorry I know this isn't the film section but thought I'd get a higher chance of someone knowing what I meant by transparency)?
Shot in the dark but if you got an incling of what I mean would love your thoughts or suggestion.

Perfect use of the 16/3.5.
It produces really crisp sunstars too.
