I have to admit that I miss the 20mm range. My latest addition, the 20mm f4 AI.

Kevin, for fun-shots like this the noise-reduction sliders of ACR ("luminance" set to 15 in this case) work well enough for me.
I shoot a lot of indoor-sports and go up to ISO8000 routinely, but I try to use ISO12800 and even higher numbers as rarely as possible.
Many times poor light quantity goes hand in hand with poor light quality and this makes working in small venues really hard.

Is that luminance in Lightroom or in Adobe Camera Raw? I have to get it up around 40 in Raw, 0.8 pixels, to get what I see in your images.

Lately my post work is evolving. I am not sure where its going, but it is different from where it has been. I will try and post a shot showing what I mean soon. You folks on this forum make me think outside the box with my work. And when I say that, I mean really outside the box (for me that is).

good buy Monty - you'll love it!! Don't know the 24 - 70, except it's pretty big isn't it. We won't see any samples here but I hope you post the odd MF pic.

HI Curtis - the best of the best for you two this year.

We're loving summer and we're not compalining about the heat or lack of rain after our cold wet winter - being on the coast we never get down to freezing but it's like San Francisco - cold but still beautiful..

Leighton and Georg - thanks for the feedback. I also like the PSE version better - it's cleaner.

Kevin - I've also only tried the trial version of Silver Efex but now having played with both IMO it's a product that suits my approach better than the Topaz product as I find it simpler to use.

Curtis - the rose is great and with my tired old eyes there is very little to choose between the 85's. I'm sure the colour and sharpening could be matched in PP and if money is an issue I'd go for the f2 - if they ever become available here!!!

Georg - stunning boat conversion. As for the Canon..............nice image at ridiculous ISO!

Monty, Monty, Monty - what about your retirement! Seriously haven't you read Ken Rockwell who avers that the D600 is the best DSLR ever made? (That's this week )

Ray - can't comment on your pics as Zenfolio is down but like MacArthur I shall reurn

Scott - thanks

A bit of money? Wow! I need to contact Webex manager! For me "a bit of money" is enough for a loaf of bread or so... I need to change my paradigm! I love yours!

But... I understand AF issue... but a zoom?... That's a heresy! This is a statement from someone who feels guilty for pre-ordering a Sigma 35/1.4....

Curtis - Thanks for all your help with the 85 comparisons. Now I'm right back where I was in deciding which one.

Thank you Georg, Scott and Laura. Yes Laura, they were rejected rather than orphaned.

It's kinda nice. One of my first thoughts was the possibility of selling some of my overlapping MF lenses. As I went down the list of my MF lenses I could not think of one that I should sell. I guess I'll just hord them

Well, I NEVER would have guessed this! Now I know why you haven't been on here much lately, you're too ashamed buying an AF lens. I hope you know I'm only joking! Heck, if I had your kind of money, I may very well do the same thing!

I'm sorry Leighton I just haven't had a chance to do a direct comparison. I can say for sure that as far as color, contrast, clarity and bokeh the 1.4 is a clear winner. Nikki has a nice bokeh but the 1.4 is butter Not to say that I have been displeased with Nikki. I think she performs quite well. Here are some photos from Bok Tower that I took today.

Hey Ray, your images don't show, at least in my browser they don't.

If there was one lens that would tempt me to buy an AF lens, the new Sigma 35mm would be the one! I'm blown away by the images I've seen come out of this thing.

I understand you perfectly. This lens seems to be a game changer. It was a good offer on the Black Friday to pre-pay for it at a very good price but unfortunately in my country they are delaying the delivery in F mount. For Canon its already available here. Probably the request is so high that Sigma can not meet it... But one day I will have it! Ugh... we keep talking here about AF non-Nikon lenses? I think soon we will be banned

Wow Monty. Why did you change to the D800 after getting the D600? 24-70 is a fine lens too. Yes, I'll hoard my AF and MF lenses too, after I shake out a few

Why not sell them on here instead? That way you only have the paypal fees, and the ebay fees stay in your pocket.

Glad to see that, John, I think the 135 f3.5 was the second MF lens I bought.

A few from my 2nd 135mm f/3.5 AIS - this one from KEH in EX condition (the first one the ebay seller graciously took it back for a refund). Both at f/5.6.

The center is already sharp wide open (that is if you get it focused accurately) with the borders and corners catching up by f/5.6:
