Thanks Leighton, and everyone else, glad you enjoyed the shot.
The trick is making myself use MF lenses when it's truly cold out, my fingers get really white and hurt bad enough that I keep very short photo trips in the really cold snowy weather, which is normal around here (average is under 4 hours of sunshine a day in January-February, and heavy overcast grey the rest of the time it seems). I usually find an AF lens much easier and quicker to shoot with by just hitting the AF-On button, recomposing, and then taking the shot. We do have some days when there's snow cover, with decent lighting, and moderate temps with no wind (ie a calm and bright day with snow cover), I'll need to pack some MFNG along with me.
Moody Blues lyric inspired. The album was from 1968 "The Last Chord" - Introduction song-spoken piece title is "The Word" - which goes straight into "OM"
"This garden universe vibrates complete
Some, we get a sound so sweet
Vibrations reach on up to become light
And then through gamma, out of sight
Between the eyes and ears there lie
The sounds of color and the light of a sigh
And to hear the sun, what a thing to believe
But it's all around if we could but perceive
To know ultra-violet, infra-red, and x-rays
Beauty to find in so may ways
Two notes of the chord, that's our full scope
But to reach the chord is our life's hope
And to name the chord is important to some
So they give it a word, and the word is OM"

5D mark III with the 35mm f1,4 ais. Contrary to Barb's accusations - I can still hear The 5DmkIII lets me know when things are in focus with a beep.
Barb is right. There is hearing, and then there is male selective hearing.
Having had horses, dogs, cats, goats, birds and so on, and including Hubby, I have also determined this is apparently non-species specific.
Anyone considering buying a Zf? I’m thinking of selling mine as I barely use it. It’s the kit with the 40/2 SE and the 28/2.8 SE. I have a handful of grips for it as well. I don’t think I’ve hit 2k on the shutter, but need to check. (I still have the Z5 that I would continue to use).
I’m also going to be letting go of most of my manual focus kit as well, only keeping the 4 lenses I actually use…28/3.5, 55/1.2, 8.5/2, 80-200/4.5.

I have a theory about this selective hearing thingy. I think some women think men can hear their thoughts - which they confuse with actual spoken words. It's just a theory

Resolution on the old micros is remarkable and made sense when I read what Nikon had to say in the 1001 Nights for the DX 40mm Micro.
"The rendering of background bokeh demonstrated by this lens is clearly different from that of previous Micro lenses. It feels like a new generation of Micro lens with which the focus of design shifted from an emphasis on resolution with flat subjects to an emphasis on the background bokeh and three-dimensional rendering of subjects captured in the field. While the lens can be a little difficult to control when shooting at the minimum focus distance, it is an appealing, compact lens that offers beautiful bokeh."

Interesting observation by the optical engineers and yourself. This shot is a pretty unusual "macro" circumstance in that I can't think of many situations where there would be a continuous patterned falloff like this. In addition, this was a deep crop of quite a ways away....... 3320x2247 from the Z7ii's 8256x5504. I've got an some vintage AI micros, intermediate aged 70-180 micro, and a Z Micro. I should do a somewhat controlled test one of these days.

Thanks Mary. Believe it or not, this is the first time I can remember doing shots like these. This did not cross my mind, I was intent on a 4 mile hike, but ended up with most of my time 1/4 mile from the parking lot at this one pond.

Thanks Morten. The bugs are Bees, and about a dozen showed up in the 72 shots. Only two were in the narrow plane of focus at the time of the multiple exposures, and those are the two in focus bees I left in the image.
