Leighton, I'm hoping it can. It works fine with AF lenses but that's not what I have it for. It's a milestone in my recovery that I can even talk about it now . I have set myself a deadline to pack and ship it off this month. Hoping Nikon still works on it.
Raymond, the coupling tab is possibly linked to an electronic board. I was hurrying and pulled it out the way to mount the lens. The crunch I heard as I tried to lock the lens in was an unwelcome surprise. The tab still moves in and out like it used to but the apertures are now all over the place.
I know very little about optics. Can someone tell me what's going on in this image? There's a faint light ring surrounding the flower. FWIW this wasn't shot facing the sun.
90 year old conflict hardware - HMS Belfast is a floating museum.
I think my 85/1.8 H is from 1971 or so.
Doh - I previously stated mine was an HC but is actually a non multi-coated H

Nice image Leighton. Not sure if this is the same thing, but I have experienced a similar effect when doing long astrophotography images. From what I have read, it is the camera sensor and not the lens. Not sure if this would apply to your daytime image.

Leighton,
I certainly am no optics expert, You know when those geeks test lenses on the other sites - the beige wall shots at various f-stops showing a vignette on the wide open shots that ALWAYS disappear by f5.6? It is light fall off. As counter-intuitive as it seems. It is harder for a lens to cover the corners and edges wide open - than when stopped down. That's what I think it is, because it is right in the center. If it was off center - then I would think it is a flare of some type.
Jim.
I’ve had this happen with my Fujis as well. I chocked it up to the cheap lens adapter I was using. It’s black inside, but kind of shiny still. I lined it with some thin felt and I didn’t notice it anymore.
