It was blustery and hot (93 degrees) yesterday. I made a short visit to the yard with the D850 and the Nikkor-P 180mm f2.8 + the tc-16a. The wind made the focus stacks look like Monet paintings on some of these - IMO. Everything was shot at f2.8

Nice lush colors Jim.
Do you get much rain to go along with those temperatures?

The mercury hit 108F on the afternoon we headed towards the Sphere.
135/2.8 AI-S
Don't be fooled by the perspective since the Sphere is massive and is some way away from the pedestrian bridge joining the Wynn and Ventian hotel complexes.

DSC_1527: Sphere, Las Vegas by Colin McIntosh, on Flickr

Same lens, but taken a bit closer from the roof of the Venetian's parking garage.
Obstructed view due to safety caging all around but the 138/2.8 was slim enough to minimise the impact.

Very nice colors and interesting exhibit Colin. Looks like a trip was just the ticket to get out of the photo blahs!

Great clock detail Serge. For the last one looks like you were on pretty even elevation with the clock face, though we can still see some upward orientation of the lens.

---------------------------------------------

Classic Leighton even if it was posted anonymously. Beautiful.

I guess counterfeit currency is at least 2000 years old!

Thanks, Ray.

I would estimate the clock is 13-14ft above ground level. I tried to minimize the distortions, a step ladder would have been useful.

Nice photo with the 85/1.8.

James, stunning rich colors with the 180/2.8.

This is beneath one the the Charles Bridge's 16 supporting arches, an eye catcher.

I was not alone trying to photograph this, it took around 15 minutes for my turn.

The other side of the bridge and up the stairs. The for hire classic looking kit cars are popular in Prague.

Thanks Colin. It rained all last week - the humidity is very high, and the temps today are suppose to be even higher.

Getting some great shots of Vegas Colin. Last time I was there was 1984 on the way to Yosemite to go camping. The world changes so rapidly that if you just stay put for 40 years - whereever you are will change so much - it is like being on another planet.

Wow Serge - Love that painting. Can't get the QR code reader to get the info off the graphic though. Was there an art competition?

Vegas sure is an interesting and dynamic place. My wife and I loved it.
Plenty to do with a ton of photography opportunites on top. It will take me ages to cycle through the image backlog.
50/2 used to look into the Aria hotel front desk / lobby area.

James, the artist is Igor Schulman, the artwork "Kiss under the Charles Bridge".

I cropped the above and made some adjustments. Our phones could not read the QR codes, perhaps you will have better luck with the full size file.

Thanks Serge - you sure have an eye for romantic paintings. I guess that means I have three things to watch out for Kittens, broken/new camera/tech gear, and now printed romantic paintings. Hope it gets here fast - times a wasting.

Colin,
None of your photos look anything like 1984 Vegas. I only spent one night there before heading across Death Valley. I went to bed late and when I woke up I wasn't sure where I was. Two of the biggest most famous casinos were right across the street from each other, and both were changing their facades with huge cranes. The old three story facades were gone, and they were plugging huge prefinished three-four story blocks onto the building like giant Legos. The whole block had completely different building fronts on both sides of the street in less than 24 hours. It was very disorienting - though I did drink a lot of gin and tonic the night before - it wasn't the cause of my confusion.

Yep, I'm sure.

I notice details/things. For example: That painting Serge saw on the street is altered from the original - which wouldn't have fit that archway. So, likely in Photoshop, they slid the two towers left, and eliminated a hip roof/flat top building that was behind the woman's shoulder. It doesn't change the emotive feel of the work, but I prefer the original composition even more. I suspect he bases all his work off photographs. Years ago, I illustrated a niche children's book using a technique I came up with just for that book. So far, the royalties got me a happy meal at MickeyD However, I do support the arts, and it is part of the reason I purchased a canvas copy. If the MET were to offer versions of those two paintings Serge found near some staircase in NY - I likely would purchase copies again. This one has such universal appeal, and impressionistic style.

Curious as to what the children’s book is…if it’s the one I’m thinking, we used to have it. “The Last Bedtime Story”?

No Way!

What are the odds Kevin? What are the odds of a specialty book that only a few people purchased, and we're on the same thread on the same site? It has to be astronomical.

I think it’s pretty cool. We donated it to the child care center on our campus and remembered seeing your name and thought it could be you. But I didn’t remember you saying that you did any drawing and never thought to ask. It was in the rotation of bedtime stories for a while with my youngest. Donna (my wife) usually read it and I would read something silly like “Unicorns are the Worst”.
