Hope all are doing well, life’s been chaotic and haven’t shot much. Somewhere along the way I managed to get ahold of a 105mm f:4 that just sat in the box for a while, it finally got to pull it out. Along with the 400mm ED, one of the quicker favorites. A couple initial shots, I have some work to do on DoF.

Pulled this image up on my large monitor. I really like this!
Thank you, George. I was attracted by the angle of the light shining on it, which only happens indoors at this time of the year. I was a bit dismayed to discover after posting that I shot the image in DX mode. I sometimes mount DX lenses on the Z5, seeking the in-body VR when tripod isn't an option. I then forget to go back to FX image area.

Doesn't the Z5 auto-detect a DX lens and change the image area to DX even if FX is set?
Is the issue here that the camera remembers the DX mode since it doesn't know that a MF lens has now been attached?

1) I've seen this mentioned so many times but no, my Z5 does not do this and as far as I can see, the option is not in the menu. Now I'm beginning to wonder if it is lens-specific. A quick Google shows people frustrated about the Z5 auto-cropping when a DX lens is mounted.
2) Nope. I shot with the 40mm f/2 yesterday and thought something was off. Lo and behold, I still had DX mode on.
I'm going to be a very sad and embarrased puppy if this is my fault.

And those are my only choices. Nothing about auto crop. So, I manually choose DX. Actually assigned the video record button to this yesterday to avoid the menu-diving. I don't do this often as the Z50 has me covered for DX. Just want that in-body VR sometimes.
- Voigtlander D35mm f/2 (Z mount APS-C "cpu" lens). As described, stays in FX until I manually select DX. This is the troublemaker.
- Other DX lenses (Sigma Z, Nikon Z, or Nikon F). Auto-crop and the Image Area option is greyed out.

Even the little Manual focus Nikon lens are beautiful. Pictured mounted on the D800 is the Nikon M Plan CF 20x 0.40 ELWD microscope objective shot by the 55mm f3.5 ai on the D7200, and then the results. The TC-16A is on the D800, but it didn't really add any DOF this try?
Wow Jim! How is the coverage of the sensor? Does it cover the full 35mm?

Thanks George, All my microscope objectives cover the full frame (I know, but remember pin hole cameras can as well) mounted directly to the body, and with no TC. The only time I have run into a reduced circle is running them on the microscope using an eyepiece that isn't wide field, but if you increase the distance it spreads out. I ended up getting vintage Nikon photo relay eyepieces that have more corrections than traditional eyepieces for use on the microscope, and were made for taking photos. You can see the microscope versions here. The last one is approximately 400x of the eagles' pupil. Coming from a printing background - I'm amazed that there isn't more bleed. Must be a very fast drying ink.

Insane resolution. Definitely suitable for microscope use.
So how is the microscope lens attached to the TC? Yet another rabbit hole

Siphiwe,
I find it fascinating. However, light does not behave the same when you get down to such small scale. I have learned a great deal about lighting, and have more to learn.
