Serge, We ate lunch at the Oasis on a very grey day. Travis lake levels are at the second lowest in its 80 years history. Actual sand beaches are to be seen.
2222 ends at the Lake but we drove along FM 1431 then to the side roads on the north east side. Twenty or more miles of beautiful road and scenery. All we needed is sun.
We have been in Texas for eight days. Seven of which were rainy ☹️!!

Ken, if the hill country tour takes you to Austin, the following are darn good places to visit.
The County Line on Lake Austin. They are famous for their beef ribs, great setting on the water. It is an Austin institution and a fun place. The second location on the hill is not so grand.
The Oasis Cantina on Lake Travis, great sunsets over the lake. You will have fun with the C8 driving Farm Road 2222.
On the way to the beach on December 20th I stopped by the river. The new to me 5DmkIII with the 24mm f2.8 ais. Oddly, the shutter count has been going down ever since I got it off ebay - almost 3000 frames in the opposite direction.

Lovely series.
Thanks Peter. I did post the visit back in December. I had the whole beach all to myself, and the only on the beach picnic table. However, not even Barb would join me outside and she waited in the car as I trudged a mile north on the beach to reach the subject I came to shoot. It was a glorious day. linked below

Y’all got me thinking I need wider than the 20mm. What’s a good, not crazy price, rectilinear option?
28-50mm shot I forgot to post.
Wow, a chance to push the drugs and no one responds. We must all be really busy.
From memory, in Nikon MF land, there's only 13mm, 15mm, and 18mm. I'm sure Rafael can fill you in first hand on the performance of these lenses, though I don't think any of them would necessarily qualify as cheap unless they were a real beater. I think some of the older 18mm variants would be cheapest. Good luck!

For super-wide/rectilinear MF Nikkors (skipping the 13/5.6 which is a unicorn/collector's-item), there was a non-AI 15/5.6, an AI/Ai-S 15/3.5, an 18/4, and an Ai-S 18/3.5. Probably the 18/4 would be the cheapest one to look for. I ended up buying an 18/2.8 AF-D as it is very compact and has a somewhat bad reputation (vignetting and bad corners) which means the price can be reasonable. I like that the 18/2.8 AF-D is pocketable, and I think is only a poor performer compared to some of the super-wide zooms, so for me it was a great purchase.
Thanks Ray and Grant, my wallet said to just let it lie. Knew a little of the 18s but didn’t seem worth it vs the decent 20mm f/3.5. Under that assumption the 15mm Ai/AiS is about the only option so guess I’ll check it out (no real urgency…)

Matt, I was waiting for rafael to jump in. I have a mix of Nikkor and non-Nikkor MF & AF lenses under 20mm that are rectilinear.. I was really surprised at the output of two of the non-Nikkors.the Rokinon 14mm f2.8 ED AS IF UMC, and the Tokina Ai 17mm f3.5 RMC renders almost identical to the 20mm f2.8 ais. They are usually reasonably priced.

But then I can’t participate here!
Sure you can. You just can't post images from non-Nikkors on this only MF Nikkor thread. If you want to find out whether going wider or not was something you want to pursue - I was just offering a reasonably priced way to explore it. Even DX AF Nikkors are a cheap way to do this. I have a 10.5mm and a 12-24mm afs Nikkors. Both will cover 5x4 crops, and the zoom does FX at about 14 or 15mm. I paid a ton for them back when Nikon didn't even have a full frame digital camera, but used prices are a fraction of what I paid 20+ years ago.
I re-imaged a Great Blue Heron shot from a few years ago. D7200 with the 400mm f5.6 ais and the tc16a handheld. I was shooting across the corner of a small lake from about 400-500 yards. Only one frame had acceptable sharpness. Well - I didn't do any better other than toning down the contrast a bit from the original image.
