We went down to Upstate SC to visit our son for my birthday. Ended up evacuating him back to our house here in NC today. No power, cell phone service out, only a few gas stations pumping gas. Not a good situation. Western NC is a disaster area.
Going to be a long recovery there for sure.

Hurricane Helene passed through our area early this morning. A lot of people are without power, but there's not a lot of flooding in our area. We somehow missed out on the worst of it even though the eye of the storm was just a few miles away. Fortunately, we were on the west (clean) side of the storm. We have family members on the Georgia coast that are without power and don't expect to get it back until maybe Monday. No property damage, though.
I took a ride to a nearby state park, High Falls State Park, to see how much water is flowing and it didn't disappoint.
I can feel the power of the river via your images.

Our deliberately empty ferry from Amalfi to Sorrento stopped off at Positano to pick up and max out on passengers. The ferry system was chaotic! No real order to any queue and signage was non existent. Basically a bun-fight that added to the fun - or stress depending your outlook.
We were going to take a trip to Positano and walk some of the trails but after having spent a day in Amalfi/Atrani and another in Capri we decided we had seen enough of very crowded narrow streets and similar landscapes. Besides didn't want to experience the hassle and costs of the ferries for a third day running. Apart from changing boats on the outward journey this is as close as we got to Positano.

I was thinking about you yesterday. What a way to celebrate your birthday.

I love the clarity and sharpness with these. It makes me wonder though, who came along one day and said, yes, we shall build a town here on the side of these rocks.😁
Loving the Italy shots Colin ! As Leighton said, such sharpness, vibrancy and COLOUR !
Would love to visit the Amalfi coast and the Cinque Terre area.
Again, while I'm here, a shot from Mt Cook.
This is Kea Point, a short walk from the White Horse campground. Mueller Lake in the foreground, and it's lateral morraine in the foreground (Mueller Glacier is round the corner to the left), Mt Cook Lower Peak in the gap in the middle, Mt Sefton on the left and I think the peak on the right is called The Nun's Veil !

On the way to Amalfi we had to change boats in Positano.
Nice pictures!

This is one of the many uncivilized things I can't stand about Italy. Most Italians do not deserve the beauty of our country. People think they live in the country of culture because we have history and monuments. Then they leave garbage on the streets and do not know how to respect the most trivial rules of civil coexistence.

Thanks Riccardo.
I loved 'almost' every minute of the vacation. The historical sites, the local people, the coffee, the amazingly beautiful coastlines, and those vibrant coastal towns - not to mention the great food that, if you were careful, actually didn't cost very much given the location.
I'd ban large tour parties though. The herd mentality meant they all wanted to get from A to B in an unbroken human chain.....

Leighton,
The 50/2 HC is no slouch at f/8 and pairs very well with the Z6ii sensor and IBIS.
I used the daylight WB and landscape color preset in LR with clarity notched up to 25.
I guess bright sunshine and clear air after the storm had rolled through also helped acuity.

Colin, excellent photographs of Naples and Amallfi Coast. It has been a while since visiting Positano, thanks for the trip down memory lane. It was a workout staying in the hilltop hotels in Positano but the views were fantastic.
Andy, stunning scenery and photo.
Regina. keep the terrific captures from Ireland coming, beautiful views.
