Hey everyone - life has been far too busy lately, but I've had some time to lurk and enjoy the ongoing great photographs for the last several months. I finally had a few moments to sit down and go through some pics. Here are a few from the recent Canadian Thanksgiving weekend at our new farm.

AdoramaPix and MPIX also do photo books. I used Adorama to do a photo book to give my kids, and my grandkids a copy of photos of Grandpa and them doing things. Came out pretty nice, and you can sign up for their sales promotions. Print up a few, and show it around, bet you'll be surprised.

Dylan, that's another fantastic set. You should really think about a possible book-project.

I've never thought too highly of my own work. While I enjoy it myself, I never thought it would appeal to an audience broad enough to justify publication. Thank you very much for your encouragment. I think Leighton was the first to say that I should start thinking of a book, and a few people have repeated it since, and now you. I am going to start looking at what I do in a different light. Maybe there is an audience...if so, I would have never known if it weren't for the fantastic people in this thread.

I know I am relatively new here still, but I love you guys and gals.

Thank you both for the suggestions....I've got a ton of work ahead of me it seems.

I made a casual bokeh comparison (at f/2) between the 85mm f/1.4 ais and "Nikki's daughter" (85mm f/1.8 K ai'd) . No "scientific test" here.
The subject was an epiphyte (Dendrobium sp) on an old tree here at my university campus.

I am wondering if you guys can guess which is the mighty 85/1.4 ais and which is the old 85/1.8K.

Both lenses are similarly very sharp and a joy to use, but bokeh is slightly distinct.

Tonight I will tell you guys which is which

Congrats Tony and Matt for your new 180/2.8 and 35/1.4.

Brad, nice and fun perspective with the 16mm.
Is it the f/3.5 or f/2.8 version?

Thanks, it's the 3.5.

I liked the most the bonfire shots, they look like almost rectilinear. Did you use a DX body?

Yes, I am (still) shooting with a D7k. I keep flip flopping on whether or not to get a D600.

Mihai, nice sunsets/sunrises, liked the most the second one.
Is it a plane in the first shot?

Jose,

Nice images. My guess is that the top picture comes from 1.8K. I noticed the bokeh has the oval shape like the 50mm f1.2 in the previous images you posted.

Three votes for the bottom shot being the f/1.4. The background would be challenging for any fast lens and both of these lenses handled it quite well. I see a touch more smoothness in the second shot but you could blow us all away as say that is the K lens. What fun!

Sweet set Mihai. Your work with the 55 f/1.2 is impeccable. What a surprise this lens has been for me. And I want everyone to be aware that while the S-C AI'd is a fine lens, the coatings first applied to that lens were used for ALL subsequent versions, so you needn't hold out for the S-C which is hard to find with the AI conversion kit, but can go for an AI'd K or a native AI version and get a fine lens. This is definitely a lens worth considering, especially so if you don't already own the 50 f/1.2 AI-s which typically costs about a hundred dollars more. Food for thought...

Dear All,

It's been a rainy few days here, but I did manage to catch a short break in the weather to get these nice sunset shots:

One with the 28mm series E and one with the 105mm which (to state the obvious) is incredible.

Kind regards,
Mark.

The colour through the rain clouds was incredible - and the 105 captures it so well.

Show your Series E lens some love.

Scott - Your Columbus Day shots are beautiful. Don't worry, there's still some D7000 users hanging around.

Alan - I love the pano, very well done.

Brad - Perfect use of the 16mm, great shot!

Dan - Love the set, specially the bon fire!

Jose - What a beautiful plant, and shot!

Mihai - I really like the landscape's with the 55.

Curtis - Good use of the 300mm. Easier when your subjects attention is elsewhere.

Mark - The last one is very nice.
