Michael, love that Savannah street shot with the baby and toddler in the stroller. Excellent pics of your kids and family as always. Those M3 shots almost look too clean to me, where's the grain

Andrew, those 75Lux shots are all excellent!
Phil, congrats on the Mono! Cute shot of your granddaughter with the 5cm.
Charles, those 75Lux beach shots are beautiful. Love the silvery lighting.
Ron, excellent B&W set with the 50Lux. That stopped down 75Lux shot of Toronto looks really sharp and nice with a somewhat modern rendering. Really like this lens.

Daytona Beach, FL. I left the camera at ISO320 and pushed between 3.5 to 5 stops in LR4, so ignore the EXIF info as it was much darker. Banding was quite noticeable on some shots but overall I'm happy with the Mono's low light results. #4 slightly cropped.

Here are few from san francisco davies symphony hall several weeks back, I don't feel comfortable to confront with people, so I choose side

all WO by 50lux ASPH and M9 with people moving at low light, I have to push about 1-2stop after capture so there are focus error.

Michael, thank you for taking the time to provide me with a detailed reply. That V1 is a very distinct lens. Your photographs have a beautiful tone! I am wondering if you have ever compared it to the V4?

Lastly, if I may ask you another question... How does the 35mm R Lux compare to the M version. I am assuming that you have compared them. Thanks Andrew

Looks great Andrew - Very, very vibrant! The last two are really interesting and a nice change of the usual CN Tower (which is how I shot it and will post later).
Michael - love that one of your son!
Allen - congrats on the show and your invite photo is a great find, wow!
Joe, very cool. You should come to Port Dover, Ontario any Friday the 13th, though it's better in the summer. The next one this year is in September: http://www.pd13.com It's only a ~8 hour drive from Boston or two hours from Buffalo NY airport.

I am very undecided whether to keep the C-Sonnar or not. It draws nicely at f/1.5 to f/2, but the focus shift at smaller apertures is very frustrating. I have to remember always to front focus it in order to get sharp results.

Here is a long range comparison at f/8, 1/125s, iso 160, ACR default settings:

Is your C-Sonnar optimized for f1.5 Edward? The sense I get from researching the lens is that a f1.5 optimized lens is great at f1.5-f2.0, but a bit of pain to use at other f-stops. My recently sold copy was optimized for ~f2.8 and was quite usable at f2.8 and up, but extra care was needed at wider apertures. Given the characteristics of the lens design, I suspect that Zeiss' decision to optimize the lens at f2.8 probably makes sense as the best choice for most users, but for many it seems counter-intuitive.

Yes, it seems to be. As far as I understand, Zeiss started optimizing all recent batches to 1.5 because many users wanted it that way. However, I agree that 2.8 is probably the better option.

My now sold Sonnar also optimized for f2.8. theoretically, this seems a way has its merit if you want use it both WO and slow down. It requires no attention when you need photo to be absolutely sharp. WO, you can compensate at close range and DOF is cover at long range assuming we usually not need absolute sharpness.

Edward, in you case, I would suggest use it WO all the time. Or dedicate it as a low light lens or art lens., Which is pretty much I do with either Sonnar or 50lux ASPH. From your comparison, you can see Sonnar get noticeable blur background than planar even at same aperture. To me, that make more difference than slightly sharpness difference shown in Planar image.

Andrew, I don’t have V4 35cron and never tried V4, but from MTF, it looks very good once stop down. By seeing image taken at f2, I don’t feel it deserve ‘king of Bokeh’ title

Carstenw was point out that person name it clarify later that he was referring slow down Bokeh.

As for 35lux R and 35lux M, I think I answer you from Leica R thread

I wish I can afford 35lux FLE. It should be an awesome lens, look what Joe, Allen got.

I feel Leica R lux have special character I am drawing into. For 35mm lens, be able to shoot close and place my focal point anywhere in the frame is my priority. So the 35lux R will bury with me. It also is one of sharpest 1.4 lens I ever had at “CENTER”.

I feel all leica R lux are character lens, means not as strong as some field than others. But modern M are usually extreme capable to do anything you want but lose just a liitle bit of character for particular mood/artish images. I feel if you like 50f1 and 75f1.4, you will love Leica trinity lux R for sure. I just bought the 80lux. it is on my way to me. I am look forward to try it.

Thank you for the good advice Zhangyue. Certainly the WO rendering is outstanding, and would be worth keeping the lens just for that.
