Thanks Ocean!
wstam, nice set!
Hilmar, very nice! The last shot is a classic, and obviously you did not take either Great colours and PP'ing in all the shots
Ron, you amaze me, how you turn mundane scenes into great shots!! Great PP'ing. You need to have a question and answer blog for your PP'ing skills.
Adam, no excuse for no shots yet! And yes you probably need the M The 28 Cron is brilliant, but so is the 24 Lux. The external VF, is neat as I love it as a composition tool to make me think about how I want to frame the shot with the 21mm lines.
Adam, I agree with Ron. An external finder is not necessary although it took me some time to get used to frame the 24 Summilux without such a finder.
Ron, I absolutely agree with Charles and I like how he put it in his words: "you amaze me, how you turn mundane scenes into great shots!!" This is sooo true.
WeeSin - I like the rendering in the first image. Thanks for the details. I guess so long as there aren't any undesirable water critters in there with them, or the water itself isn't too nasty, could be a not so bad way to beat the heat for a while?
Two variations on the same scene, from slightly different angles. 50 Lux ASPH wide open:
Tobin: sorry, not me. Haven't shot film since ~2003. I guess there could be something said for buying a $1K body and spending the difference between it and a new M on film, developing and a scanner. But as it is now, I already have trouble keeping up with PP of my digital files. I couldn't imagine adding scanning to that as well. Maybe I should spend less time online!
Nice Ron! Who would have thought that a simple tree could look so good. I agree that it is difficult to keep up with images - especially with all the time spent coming up with tasty Lunar slogans!
I am considering selling my CV35VII and ZM35C and buying one, single fast(ish) lens. The 35lux is out of my price range but perhaps not the 35cron. What is the general feedback on the 35cron (latest)? Is is a good perfomer on par with the 50cron? Are there any other options I should be considering? Thanks in advance.

How about the ZM 35/2? I agree however that if you want a Leica the cron is the best option imho. I have seen some tests that show the ZM 35/2 and 50/2 to be almost identical in performance to the cron equivalents.

The 35 Cron Asph, is one amazing lens IMO Depends on the style of rendering as the older version are great too.

Gary: not using the CV much? I've barely used mine since getting the 28 Cron...
I am certainly not using it a much as I thought I would. I think the main reason is that it is just a little big for my liking. I don't mind it if I am using just a single lens but when I pack 2-4, the size is a factor. The output of the lens is superb though and that is why I have kept it. I could also go another route and use a 21/28/50/90 setup instead of having a 35 in my lineup. The problem is that eventually I will go full frame and the 35 FL would likely be my most used lens. Has anyone used the Canon 35 f/2 ltm? I don't think it would be up to par with the 35cron. BTW - nice tree shots Ron!

I have both 35 cron ASPH and 50 cron and used to have the ZM35C.
Comparing them the 50 cron has a little more classic look to it. The 35 cron gives really clean sharp pictures. But the differences are pretty small and they both fit nice together.
Performance wise they both are just really good lenses. Great sharpness, nice colors.
Size is about the same as the ZM 35C since the front element is pretty small and sticks far into the hood.
If u find f/2 fast enough I think u can't go wrong with the 35 cron.
Oh, and both 35 and 50 sharing 39mm filters is a big plus to.
Thanks for the feedback Robert. For some reason, I haven't heard much feedback on the 35cron on FM. I may also take another route and buy a 28cron which I feel is superb lens.... Choices....

The 28 cron is a wonderful lens. Swap out the over sized hood for the 35 Lux hood and it's a great package.
This might be just me, but the 35 Cron kind of falls in a gray zone where for a lot less money, you can pick from either of the two Zeiss or the Summarit. Sure, you give up a bit of speed with a couple of those, but for outdoor stopped down work, there really won't be a remarkable difference. On the other end, for 'just a bit more' you can pick up a 35 Lux and gain a stop for low light work. The Lux also seems to get most of the 35mm Leica glory, because it's f/1.4, and for a lot of people, it's a single lens, do it all solution. I've seen Lux ASPH v.1s listed recently well under $4K, so the price difference really isn't substantial.
That said, the Cron ASPH is really small... and there are likely some rendering differences between it and at least the Zeiss lenses that won't be so evident in an on-paper assessment.
Just thought I'd throw these up as a comparison from a quick, impromptu portrait. Started off with 50 Lux ASPH, then 28 Cron, then thought, 'why not?' and tried a few with the 21 Lux as well. All were wide open and have had a fairly minimal amount of PP, other than WB and some slight skin tone hue tweaks. The 28 & 21 images were at or near 70cm minimum focusing distance.
One thing though... I would have sworn he was wearing a forest green rather than olive green shirt...
Ash, great idea!! I assume the 35 Lux hood does not vignette on the 28 Cron?
Ron, superb series on the same theme! Great portrait shots! And yes the shirt should be olive green I really like how you have managed it with the 21, as this is not easy! My pick for environmental portrait would be the 28 Cron
Hilmar, very nice capture! I think this is where the 35 Lux Asph really shines Doing it tough at Ocktorfest
Gary, I have had both 35 Cron Asph and ZM 35/2, and IMO much preferred the 35 Cron Asph. This was almost 2 years ago and my workflow has changed considerably. If 35mm FL was my main pick, I would even try 35 Cron Pre Asph to have the more classic look. For similar price level I would even consider the 35 Lux Pre Asph version, or Lux Ash VI. You can not go wrong with the 35 Cron Asph, and if have the chance, you should try it and see whether you gel with the rendering and feel of the shots
