From NJ this past weekend. Some with the 600/4, some with the 200-400/4 with TC. ISO ranged from 400 ISO to 3200 ISO. I tried to offer a mix of tight, waist up shots, which some like and some don't like and full body action head to toe. Pans are at 1/30 of second and not quite "there" yet. If I hadn't been bound to getting 900 shots in each game and a decent selection of images for every kid, I would have invested more time in it. Let me know what you think...
Paul: Love 5! and 7 is sweet as well. The pans are very promising (though the multi-headed dude in the background of the first one is a bit distracting ). I'll stay tuned...
I love your tight, sharp shots that capture so much detail. I think the last photo with the slow shutter has moved into "work of art" category. Beautiful...and I'm not even a lacrosse fan... 12 is my favorite!
Fine set Paul!
#5,7 and 12 are my favorites.
In #2 the skin tone (probably from the sun light) is a little off
#3 no faces or ball
#4 a little confusing for us who don't follow the sport regularly
#9 the bits of arm and leg on the right are a little distracting, but otherwise nice
#10 too bad we lose his feet
#11 the guy in the bg is distracting
All that said, I know this is a lightning fast sport and what you got right, you got very right. Thanks for posting, Fred
(1) Solid goalie shot... nice IQ
(2) Only Alesse gets eyes like this. I swear players have to hit a minimum eye gloss level to play on his fields. And the kid's throwing and looking at the camera. Phenominal.
(3) Good action, nice hops.
(4) Solid, although I wonder if it's just me wondering if it'd be even better with the defending player in focus chasing down the ball carrier?
(5) Kick Ass Dude. This shot is as good a 1-on-1 as I've seen in field LAX.
(6) Very nice. Just a micrometer off those stellar Alesse eyes again too.
(7) Fantastic... and holy crap where did the BG go? Amazing OOF.
(8) Great capture, funny shot.
(9) Ideal LAX shot, and I know I could sell that shot all day long. I swear you're taking an eraser to the BG's. Unreal IQ.
(10) Very close to (9), except the feet got ticked a bit. I'd be tempted to crop this to an upper body shot but YMMV, shot still works good.
(11) and (12) I dig 'em a lot. And anyone who's tried this with a pro tele should know it ain't easy. Not sure how many attempts you tossed, but these 2 both get the desired effect and have amazing clarity on the part of the image that needs it. Very well executed. Of the two, #12 is perfect and #11 is very good.
I like the pans a lot... really pushing waaay beyond the norm. Mixing it up, looking for something new... envisioning the composition/effect in your mind, then coaxing the camera to capture it.
I happen to like 4 the best...good expression on the trailing kid and you wonder if he can get there in time. Crop on #3 is odd to me...too much of the defender is cut off and he seems to be a major component of the action. Agree with Russ on the first pan but #12 is quite good.
Very nice Paul love the varied type of shots and the panning ones are oh so cool, cant wait to get over this injury and get back to shooting on a regular basis #2 #3 #5 and #12 stand out for me
Could you provide your brief assessment of the 200-400/4 naked and w/TC? Do you concur with the notion (as I understand it) that the lens seems to be optimized for near and mid-range (mid-range = I dunno, up to, say, 50 yds)?
