p.1 #1 · Equipment Insurance Question

Hi,

Apologies if I should have posted this in a different forum.

I have a 300mm F2.8 AF-I lens that is awesome, but is getting old and I'm not sure how much longer it will hold up. Will the typical equipment insurance purchased for wedding photographers cover the lens if and when it dies?

Also, I purchased the lens from eBay about a year ago, what is the standard method of documenting eBay purchases for tax/insurance purposes if the seller doesn't provide an official written receipt?

Thanks

Why would it "die" unless you damage the glass anything mechanical would be fixable by Canon right? Unless your deductible is really low (which costs more $$$) insurance should be used to cover complete destruction or theft.

It's a Nikon, but I guess my question is, does Insurance cover equipment failure, or breakdowns? What is the typical deductible on gear?

Sorry, I used to shoot for other people as a contractor, I haven't had to deal with all of this on my own yet.

It would depend on the policy that you have. MY policy does cover equipment failure and how it relates to income lost because of it. Insurance policies are what you want them to be so just make sure that you are buying what you want and happy with the price that you need to pay for it.

As an FYI, my equipment insurance does NOT cover breakdown or mechanical failure, even due to accident.

Makes my premium much cheaper. I figure if I drop the camera, it's my own fault.

There are plenty of people around that do excellent lens repair. Bernie Barge in Newton, KS is a certified Nikon and Canon repairman with lots of high praise from local pros. I can get you his phone # if you like.
