I'm frankly amazed at the image quality from a small camera! I'm impressed.
Both images would benefit, to my eyes, from cropping. Fortunately the image quality is easily up to the task. The pup's eye's have a little haze. Direct flash with dogs often has that effect. The nose can also pick up a slight gray haze from direct flash. One way I suggest is to use the lasso tool to select an eye, then Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Exposure and slightly reduce the Offset slider. Flatten the image and repeat for the other eye and then the nose.
