p.1 #1 · Vinyl for 4880?

My daughter is a teacher and wants me to do some pix on vinyl with crack and peel adhesive. Atlex lists several kinds in rolls, but I'm unsure they would work well on this printer.

Can anyone suggest such a product, possibly in sheet form?

If you have had experience with it, what tips can you pass on?

Well I'm interested in the answer. Please report back on what you ultimately figure out. ;-)

I have a Roland printer / cutter. It is designed to print on graphics vinyl and can also cut any pattern. Mine can be used for a wide variety of applications such as trade show graphics, vehicle graphics, movie lightbox graphics, etc. ... commercial projects. But, it is great for personal projects also. Printing on graphics vinyls (AFAIK) requires a special printer. You can probably get your work done locally at a sign making shop that has a vinyl printer / cutter. These printers are typically controlled with vector graphics ... I print from Illustrator.

Example of equipment: http://www.rolanddga.com/

ADDED: I went to Atlex and looked at the vinyls ... they look interesting and seem to be made to work on stock printers ... interesting. Unless your project is large, it would probably be much cheaper to have someone with the printer and supplies, just print locally.

FWIW...I ordered some sheets of glossy self adhesive vinyl film from an outfit named Papilio, whoever they are. I will report back if the product seems workable--or not...

I got a very nice phone call this morning from the Papilio folks, who actually read and responded to my notes on the order sheet.

The bad news is that most their current products are not compatible with 4880 inks (and believe me I appreciate their candor on this); the good news is that products that will accept such inks are in the pipeline for this summer.

I appreciate the Roland ideas; when I have gone to the local sign "experts" what I want seems outside their comfort zone and thus outside my comfort zone....and when you send out, there is the cost factor......
