This is one of my first pictures taken with my newly acquired Canon 1D. I was not trying to capture anything special, just trying to get used to the camera and the developing process. Up until now I have been using a point and shoot and wanted to get back to my 35mm roots. Any critiques, advice regarding the photo, or just shooting in general would be great. Below is a jpg that I did a little work on in lightroom.
Welcome to FM and enjoy the camera!
Its a pretty scene with a beautiful sky and snow in the trees. Bluish cast from the sun is noted in the shadows of the snow. In LR you could use the eye dropper tool to click on some of the shadowed snow and "correct" the white balance. You will get different results in different spots, more or less to your taste. End result will be a warmer look, with more browns in the trees.
Image has a bit of cluttering elements, that, as framed, dont really work for me. If you like those colored canes (?), I'd shoot lower to make them more of the image and avoid cutting off the bottoms. At the lower right edge the colorful object there distracts and would be better cropped out.
I just want to thank you for taking the time to welcome me and comment on my photo. I love the camera and am taking plenty of photos. I will definitely try your suggestions.
