Nothing seem to work so far:

I'm not an expert but the code used in the post you mention is:

<STRIKE>00000</STRIKE>

It worked in that post but maybe something has changed, that post is from January 2008 so more than two years old.

On that post, click the "edit" button. It should give you the code for the strikethrough.

What I'm guessing is that there was a button on the message box to create strikethrough text, but it has since been removed.
