p.1 #1 · Help with corrupt image question.

I can't find out why my jpegs become corrupt randomly. I have googled and no solution. Here's what I have, winxp pro, cs4 and nikon capture not nx. The raw nef are fine then I convert to jpeg, After that cs4 then randomly I find corrupt images. The same thing happend with cs3. I have wiped my pc clean 3 times and the same result. Is is nikon capture that is the culprit? I posed in processing forum but no answers either.

Forget JPG shoot raw and remember to Format not erase cards before every shoot. erase leaves sh*t behind and can cause problems after a few uses.

I had a similar problem once. I would do an edit to the picture and then it would show up corrupt. The images would disappear from the page. One here and one there, and then another one. It gave me fits until I figured out the problem. This is what I did to correct my issue. It may or may not help you.

It had to do with the type of profile. Photoshop, go to edit, convert to profile and then if you are sRGB. You may need to convert one at a time if they are not. Somehow, the setting was changed on one of my cameras, and I like to have never figured it out. I finally did and then they were fine. If you have lightroom, you may be able to do the same.

This may not be your problem. This was mine and thought I would throw it in the pot. Hopefully, someone here will help you come up with what you need. Y

I do shoot raw, then convert to jpeg ,that's where I find the corrupt jpegs. Just not sure if the jpegs become corrupt in the conversion or something cs doesn't like about my version of nikon capture?

If the NEF's look good it must be your RAW converter? If you're using Nikon Capture try Lightroom to see if it fixes anything? My friend had corrupt images on his computer and it turned out to be faulty RAM. I personally would never have imagined that.

They might also get corrupted when you're importing the photos to the computer. That happens to me occasionally.

Thanks, and I will be getting lightroom this week, the nefs do look good and I make my adjustments then convert. It happens to both our cameras, and I even switched card readers. The converter is my main suspect, then again, the rsgb thing sounds logical because the jpegs always look good before I ps them, it's not until after that they just appear corrupt randomly.

If you don't want to learn another software suite you can also try looking for an update to Nikon Capture in case it's a buggy software issue as well. Perhaps that will fix your problems.

Um, update the converter? While it could be about anything, the converter would be my first guess. Reset the cam prefs too. Check forums for others experiencing the same. If you're not finding others complaining, then move on to checking ram/disks/etc.

Thanks for all your answers. I'm buying lightroom after I saw the rsgb settting looked ok. Capture is outdated and I'm going with lightroom after reading all the reviews and playing with the NX trial version. Hopefully it's the converter and cs4 just reveals the problem. I will defnitely try all solutions I have read here. This forums always rocks.
