Hello all. This may be a silly novice question, but I'll ask anyway.
I use a 50D and have a couple of SanDisk 8gb Extreme cards which have done me well, but I'll be doing a couple of time lapse projects and need more (16 or 32). In looking I see the Extreme cards are about twice the price of the Ultra cards. For my purposes, does it really make sense to pay twice as much if I don't really need the faster transfer speed? Are there other reasons to lay out that much more? I'd certainly like the Extremes, but money is tight, and by the time I really need faster speeds, the prices will no doubt drop.
For what you want them for not really. If you constantly fill the buffer up then a faster write speed is benificial.
You can look up comparative card speed for alot of cameras on the RG web site.
Also note that the later ULTRA2's are as faster as the older Extreme3
Edit:
The above is only relevant to the camera. If you have a few large cards full of data you may want the faster cards for downloading, or just do what I do. go make a cup of tea while they download
Thanks for that. I think the cheaper ones will be fine for the time lapse. I usually use ones with a 60 mb/s write speed, and for what I do it's been fine.
With the time lapse I don't even need that fast, 30 mb/s with my 50D will be enough.
And they are the older Ultra cards, $69 for a 16gb at BandH.
