p.1 #1 · PS: Opening closed eyes

Hello, all
So I have at least one 20 person bridal party this season. I heard people talking about being able to open up closed eyes for large group formals using PS. While doing these types of edits in PS are not fun, I could see opening closed eyes as a potentially useful skill. Can you provide a link to a tutorial or feedback for me?

The only way I know of doing it is if you have another shot of the offending subject with their eyes open and then you just merge the shots. Maybe others know something I don't though?

Generally I copy and paste to taste if I wasn't able to get a picture with all eyes open during a group shot. This works best if just have one person with their eyes shut in a given frame and another frame with their eyes open.

As others have said, the best/ most convincing way to do this is to clone it in from another shot (same profile). For partially-closed eyes, and given the lack of any other options, you can tinker with the liquify tools (bloat/pucker), but you have to be careful that your clients don't end up looking like this:

Be sure to take 3 or so shots of the big parties. Hopefully between the three you'll have at least one with all eyes open but the likelihood of having at least one of each person with their eyes open is pretty good.

If you use a tripod get the group positioned and framed like you want them then use a remote shutter release so that you can see them better without looking through the viewfinder. Shoot at least three frames without giving anyone time to make many sudden movements and you should get one good one. If you don't like the facial expression or still have closed eyes on someone you can copy and paste from one image to the other. I have done this numerous times and it works great.

Skill my arse. I'd call this a freaking miracle. How can you open eyes to reveal something the camera didn't see? You need to copy 'em from another pic.

And yes, 2 shots for each group. Also, tell them NOT TO BLINK every few shots just before pressing the shutter. They'll get the idea.

I've never tried it in a group shot but earlier versions of Portrait Professional are free and I've used it to open eyes.

The formals are a great time to use the 8-10 fps burst. We take 3-5 shots of every group.

Multiple shots on a tripod. Copy/paste/mask.

I just have everyone keep their eyes closed until I say three. No closed eyes.

I just spent the evening opening my clients eyes more, her were just a bit droopy, and a tiny adjustment made a great difference. Then I come on here and see this thread, I thought it was kind of funny. (Then again I'm tired enough that anything would seem funny).

Yeah, I pick the pic where the most people look good, giving preference always to the bride, and then swap eyes of heads if needed.
