p.1 #1 · Older canon flashes

I have a 580exii flash and was wondering if the older 420ez or other models will work as a wireless slave with ettl. (using the 580 as a master) The older ones I can get of Ebay alot cheaper than new. Or should I not waist my $$ . I am just doing some family shots. Please give me some advise. Thanks Stephen

The 430EX for sure can be slaved...not sure about the 420EX. Older EZ styles do not work via ETTL either as a slave or master.

420EX can act as a slave as well.

A very quick google search : I dont think the EZ series has master/slave

I had 3 550EX, now down to 2. It's performance is very close to 580. I could not see any reason to trade it for 580. I especially love it for 8 different selectable levels of manual power, that I use in hummingbird photography. You should consider it. It is usable as master or slave, and is less expensive than 580.

Tis bigger than the 580 though

The 402EX can be an E-TTL slave with Canon DSLR, the 420EZ cannot.

I kept my old Canon 380. Although doesn't play well with ETTL, I use it on my G10 and LX-3 in manual mode. It's smaller size works well on the G10.
