p.1 #1 · snapshot of tour down under (cycling)

hi guys,

well its been a very long time since I have ventured on to this forum, as I have been a little to busy with my day to day work. I had a chance to attend my first UCI Pro stage race, Tour Down Under, in Adelaide. It was just an amazing atmosphere and plus the chance to mingle with the pros of the peloton was an experience on its own.

I'll leave you with a few pictures from the last three stages of the tour, if you'd like to see more than feel free to jump on to my blog,

cheers
Veeral

Thanks for sharing veeral. Sounds like you enjoyed the event. Number 8 is my favourite pic.

#1 - I love B&W, but I think the rider gets lost in the background in this one. WA was a good choice, good job capturing "a moment" where the rider looks back at the camera motor. Maybe try color or reduce the image contrast to bring out the racer & motor a bit...
#4 - Hincapie has the ugliest legs in the peloton! I like the colors & camera tilt.
#6 - I'd crop just a little from the right up to the right side of the motor. This will draw more attention to Cadel Evans. The photographer to the right is a bit annoying :-)
#7 - I like how you captured the heat radiating off the pavement and distorting the background.
#8 - killer! A little soft. This shot works for a sunny day with colorful kits - nice!

Normally, I'd like to see road racing in color...unless weather conditions are terrible and B&W would really give you a feel for the day. But here, I think you did a nice job with the B&W, esp #8. The vignetting, composition, and the facial expressions of the riders make this work for me.

I hope you did not mind playing around with one of your images. How does this work for you?

Thanks for a taking a peep guys :-)

@DejanS I agree with you the color part but when you have a very bright and sunny day the bright colors just gets drained. I think in that aspect your better off in B&W. I do have a picture of Cadel, #8, where he actually looks up and the photographer sticks his hand out, albeit its out of focus it ruined a good shot for me as I had to hike up 2.5km up a hill. I can see where you are going with the crops. You can tell George's legs from a mile away :-)

No kidding about Hincapies legs. High noon is always tough, too contrasty. Cropping...I guess it just depends where you are going with the images. I like to focus on the subject, being the rider(s). Still, you have nice shots.
