Hey Jason, excellent work as always. How do you feel the 7D perfomed? What lens(es) did you use? I have a MMA event coming up soon and will be using a 7D for the first time at one.

Thank you.

I used the Tamron 17-50 and a Sigma prime.

I'm coming from the 40D, and I've gotta say the differences are significant...

The first thing I noticed is the increase in dynamic range over the 40D. Then there's cleaner high iso's (as well as steps between 1600 and 3200 which proved useful), and of course the AF. Far fewer out of focus shots. I'd also say the noise/grain is more aesthetically pleasing, and I'm less tempted to try and edit it out.

processing wise I like these much better than your previous stuff Jason. You always get good hits and action, but past processing at times looked a little to plastic like to me. But these, utilizing the high ISO capabilities of the 7D, look really good.

Thanks, Carl.

I've got some room to improve here I think, this being my first 7D outing and all. I'm going to shoot some Golden Gloves boxing tonight, so I'll have an opportunity to see how those even higher iso's perform.

Seems like the tamron is focusing fast enough for you. I had some trouble last time I used my 28-75. Didn't want to keep up. Maybe I'll try it again with the 7D.

Wow, those are terrific. Care to share some of your PP approach too?

It should be fine for MMA. Most of the strikers in MMA aren't quite as fast as boxers with their hands, plus kicks and takedowns are easier to time. Once they're on the ground, the action is much easier to photograph, especially sub attempts.

Thanks, but there's really not much to report. I did some in-camera tweeking, resizing, and a little sharpening. I don't shoot in RAW, nor do I use the highest quality setting, so it's important that I get it right the first time.

Great shots.

5 & 6 seem to tell a story... the story of the guy who gets caught looking over his shoulder at the photographer during a bout, and what happens after

Thanks.

He ended up winning because his opponent had a cut on his eyelid, and the ref stopped the fight. It would've gone the other way had it gone to the score cards.
