After a long day of cross-country skiing in -20 weather, there's nothing a hearty Canadian enjoys more than a cold beer...

While that is probably true, my case is somewhat more pathetic: After a long day of staring at a computer screen in an overheated office, there's nothing this Canadian enjoys more than a cold beer.

Thanks for looking. Suggestions are always welcome.

I like the shot but I don't understand why you chose to convert it to B&W. Without the colour it could be a hot coffee....

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

I don't see B&W, I see traces of red. It's just a dark beer me thinks.

Oh, and there's nothing we Floridians like better than a beer, anytime. Cheers mate!

Yakim:

Thank-you for looking. PrintError is right. It is a dark beer (actually Irish Red, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_red_ale#Irish_red_ale). There are indeed traces of red. I have taken tons of pictures for this week's assignment (mostly frozen waterfalls) but like this one for the subtle red/black combination.

On my calibrated monitor, the difference is quite obvious. You can also make out a frost line on the outside of the glass, just below the surface of the beer. But I find most LCD monitors are way too high contrast and subtlety is often lost. I still use CRT monitors for digital photography; they seem to produce more consistent and predictable results (at least in my price range).

Cheers,
Rich

I personally think the color critique is valid. Perhaps a white background for the beer? Technically it's a grand shot, but looks like coffee to me.

The reddish brown colour is quite apparent on my LCD screen too.I had in mind something similar for my entry before I sighted this so I''ll post it later.

I am looking now on a CRT monitor and I can't trace any colour. I'll look at it at home where I have LCD.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

To me, the subtle reddish is certainly apparent in the etching of the tall ship, and at the base of the handle.

Best Regards,
Kurt
