Thanks, and welcome back, Siddhu!
I sold the 21 for two reasons. The main one is that I always felt that it was too wide for my taste. Because it was so good, and there was no 25 f:2.8 ZE, and I tried and failed to love ZE 28, I kept it. But now that there is a valid alternative, with the 25, I no longer need the wider of the two. Why not keep both? It is called weight, and bulk. Now that I have the 25, the number of shots for which I would need the 21 shrinks drastically, and, preference-wise, focal-length difference aside, I prefer the 25.
More on this lens. I tried close-ups, and they are a joy. The 35 already initiated me to how good a Zeiss WA could be close up, and the 25 is even more impressive, because of its ridiculously close MFD for this type of lens. I must find a way to see if bokeh is as magical as the 35's, which I don't know yet.
Regarding extreme corners, I tried. It is definitely softness, rather than field curvature IMHO. How bad is it? That is a matter of opinon. Here is a shot and its 100% corner crop. It is roughly 30m away, which is easily infinity on this lens. FYI, the focus throw is almost that of a macro lens. Very slow turning at shorter distances, then a much faster turn from 1m to infinity. And on my 5D II, it reaches infinity well before the hard stop. Other wise, focusing is very easy, and my keeper rate among the best with my Zeiss ZEs. It is too early for me to definitely call it the best, but, so far, so good......Show more →
Congrats Philippe on finally receiving your long awaited 25/2.
I see you have cast aside one of your old girlfriends for this new sexy, fast model.
I agree with others that I like the 35/1.4 shots better slightly than 25/2 but I understand you are in the honeymoon phase with the new one.
IMHO that the bokeh of the 35/1.4 is much smoother than the 25/2, a definite strength of the 35/1.4.
I would think that the 25 and 28 are too close in focal length and I expect the very low CA of the 25/2 will make that 28 look relatively bad. I expect the 28 to get neglected.
Enjoy your new 25/2!
