Don : I'm interested in you feedback about Zeiss lenses.
Siddhu : my wallet hates you your shots make me want to get a 1.4/35!
Joakim : nicely done, like composition contrast and color.

Those are great, Donuss.

I don't know how to embed videos here. Apparently, while out taking pictures yesterday, I shot this video. Pretty dull - but there it is!

I sold the 21. I know I am going to miss the 21's huge DOF, and always spectacular shots, but couldn't justify carrying another lens for, at best, 2% of my shots. I am aware that this is going to be a minority/solitary opinion, and duly expect to have my bottom spanked, the way one does with wayward children.

Good grief Philippe, I just leave you for a couple of months and this is what you do! Kids these days..

wonderful shot PT, great light btw, wish you were a little higher so that the sea could be seen behind the cliffs on the far side.

Greggf, akul, joaqim, uzay and Lasse E - thanks for the kind words.

Yes I had a blue cast with the big stopper but was easy to address in post.

Wish I could see the water beyond the cliffs but this was the highest point for this view as far as I know.

I sold the 21 for two reasons. The main one is that I always felt that it was too wide for my taste. Because it was so good, and there was no 25 f:2.8 ZE, and I tried and failed to love ZE 28, I kept it. But now that there is a valid alternative, with the 25, I no longer need the wider of the two. Why not keep both? It is called weight, and bulk. Now that I have the 25, the number of shots for which I would need the 21 shrinks drastically,

Congrats Philippe on finally receiving your long awaited 25/2.
I see you have cast aside one of your old girlfriends for this new sexy, fast model.
I agree with others that I like the 35/1.4 shots better slightly than 25/2 but I understand you are in the honeymoon phase with the new one.
IMHO that the bokeh of the 35/1.4 is much smoother than the 25/2, a definite strength of the 35/1.4.
I would think that the 25 and 28 are too close in focal length and I expect the very low CA of the 25/2 will make that 28 look relatively bad. I expect the 28 to get neglected.
Enjoy your new 25/2!

Thanks, Wayne! I agree with you that the 28 now looks rather unattractive. Regarding the 35 Vs 25, there have now been a number of enlightened members who stated their preference for the 35.
It is however clear to me that the 25 and 35 are stablemates, much closer to each other than they are to other Zeiss lenses. I haven't as yet tested the bokeh as such, which, I agree with you, is such a joy on the 35.

you could have kept the 21 ZE and cropped it to get a 25mm, if it was too good and get 2% extra real 21mm angle shots

Congrats on finally having the new 25 Philippe!
Nice to see you're enjoying it.

Picture this, great shot.
Donuss, those butterflies are beautiful.
Z, I like that first shot.
Gregg, that bokeh is too nervous for my taste.
Rodluvan, great shots as usual.

great comparison, Philippe, thanks for showing us, and keep them coming
I'd enjoy some more 25/21 comparisons as well, but I fear the latter is gone.
The softness in the extreme corner at infinity is visible in the crop but not in the image. It would not worry me to much, if you want everything sharp to the tip of the corner you can still step back one step to take the picture and crop it in pp.
Do you think the 25 has more contrast than the 35? It might be just the different focal length. You could try to crop the 25 shot and compare ( I thought my 25/2.8 was more contrasty than the 35/2, but when I enlarged the 25 image they just looked the same - as shown here):
