Again, some Big Skies
ZE 35/1.4 @ 8 - I learned from philber that this lens gets its max sharpness around there

ZE 100/2 @ 5.6 - Lake St Claire, TAS from Mt Rufus - a 20km round track. That patch of rain missed us but the next one got us...

Thanks guys..PP was only B&W conversion..I was using the miniature effect on the 5N.

Luka, lovely building shots, I really dig the cropped Z21 shot.

Donuss, the second last B&W shot is excellent

Z, beautiful light on #1

Greggf, excellent colors & clarity on the red leaf shot

Noodlz79, all nicely done BW.. I wish I could do those conversions

Grenache, I thought I saw you more often at the Leica R thread. Good to see you here, the first two of your set is lovely!

Thank you, Greg ! On that HDR with me on the rock the wind was so strong up from the valley that I could barely stand there. My trousers flattered in the wind heavily and NIK HDR efex gave a ridiculous double contour on them after aligning the three shots. How do you work around this?
I did a lot of repair work in Aperture for it, but probably you know smth better.
Cheers

As usual some fantastic work here although I'm not sure a lot of the filter effects applied (high pass filter, tone-mapping etc) are necessarily. Oftentimes it degenerates a fundamentally good looking photo imho.

The second photo of frezeiss I really like, it has great potential. Especially with the details the lens achieves. If only Zeiss made a 21 tilt shift lens for photos like the fist one..if only.

Here are a few from this weekend

The first one is ZF 1.4/50 @ 8.0. Most people would think it's kind of random and pointless, but I've been trying to work these stopped down high contrast and high detail situations, with colors that play into each other, in this case the reds. Manual everything is essential. Imo I'm a little bit too close here.

Another with he 50 @2.0

One with 2/35 @2.8 (this produced a crazy sharp photo, almost problematic, which sounds daft, I know, but the facial details almost made the skin seem crispy)

and another (2/35 @2)

Great street pictures Daniel. And very good color management.
Pictures #2 and #4 are my preferred ones (perfect compo, IMO).

Your experiments produced very good results indeed.

Wow, I'm well impressed te4o (by the latte art).

I should make some time learning that. Here's my Elektra Mico Casa a Leva captured with 1.4/50 ZF

Rodluvan, zdravo, I love the creamy look of your machine, everything is in that beautiful honey like tone - a very good shot. I am impressed by the complexity of this structure -- I use simply a non-photogenic Rancilio Silvia. But I admit I can't reproduce these consistently...

@Greg: good advice but I'm afraid too complex for me - what is a tone mapped image, Greg, and how do I send it to HDR efex - I mean usually the plug in takes the RAW as is to make it's own magic. Do you mean a single shot HDR? I've seen these and tried but the old 5D2 cannot be pushed too far - I start seeing the squares from the sensor and all the pattern noise.

Sorry for the off-topic!

The foaming is no problem, it micro-froths like crazy, the coffee pour is more difficult, I get the crema, but not the very thick crema I'd like. I believe I need to change all the seals (I bought it used) and buy a new grinder (the one I have, although nice, is very old).

@te40...I did forget about the 5D2 shadow in-capabilities if pushed too far! But, yes, I was talking about a single image processed as an HDR. It can create more noise, of course, but sometimes the results are very worth it, especially for the really rich B&W's! I have a 20x30 print on metallic paper of the Bridal Veil Falls pic above, and it looks stellar, IMHO!!

@Rodluvan...really like the 2 and 4th shots above, and of course your espresso machine shot, also! I absolutely LOVE a good espresso!!

Great photos on the last couple pages everyone! I love coming to this thread, very inspiring.

Edward, you'd asked earlier how I like the GXR. I do this all for fun and relaxation, and don't have the extensive experience of most posters, so take my comments in that context. I really like the handling, and was able to shoot the following images on a crisp sunny winter afternoon with thin gloves on, using the EVF. I usually just keep it in A-mode. My only adjustments during shooting are for EVF zoom and focus peaking on the function buttons, and exposure compensation set on the zoom rocker. Accurate focus is easy on static subjects. Output files are easy to work with for the most part (see below), RAWs converted in Aperture 3 and edited in the Nik suite for my workflow.

I have mixed feelings about the absent AA filter. I've found there to be a significant amount of color artifact when I'm shooting either subjects with a lot of straight lines or when there are a lot of high-contrast edges, like leafless branches. It confuses the noise-reduction software, and that eats away at areas of real detail. For example, when trying to get rid of the color artifacts, I lose the fine real detail in the bark of a tree. I've found that if I shoot at between f/8 to f/11, the diffraction mitigates against this and I can get some detail back with sharpening, but never with the bite of the original image. I hope that the next iteration of the M-module is either with the NEX 5N or even better the NEX 7 sensor with no AA filter. I think this would go a long way towards getting rid of the artifacts and preserving detail.

I've put more of my thoughts into a thread on nikoncafe, with samples for inquiring minds, in the following thread. I'm the only one with the camera on that forum

Many thanks for the mini review

I am very interested in the GXR, but still weighting my options. What I would love to have is an M digital, but the Ricoh is very attractive, especially the price tag.

If you already have M-mount lenses, it's a no-brainer even right now in my opinion. I have a Nikon D700 with some ZF and CV lenses, but the manual focus experience is better with the GXR for handheld photos. Plus it's so small and conventient, it gets more use. With a tripod and live-view, I enjoy using the D700 and hope to get a D800 at some point. I probably won't get the E version though....

My plan is to build up my M-mount lens collection over time, and maybe I'll give the M9 or its successor a try when finances allow. The thing I miss most with the GXR is using these lenses at their intended focal lengths. The 100MP and ZF.2 35/1.4 are awesome on the D700, but are just a little lacking when I mount them on the GXR. If a full-frame mirrorless camera came out that performed as well in the corners/edges as the current M-module using RF glass, I'd probably sell my whole Nikon setup.

I handled the camera recently at a local store with a CV 35/1.2 and was amazed at how easy it was to focus and how I nailed the focus (with peaking) from the first try. Beginners luck probably

I certainly love the concept, but like you, feel that 12 millions of pixels are too few for the AA-less sensor. I would rather wait for the rumored 16mp module that I hope would be released soon.
