Agreed, I seldom, almost never, use focus dot as I don' find it to be accurate and more importantly fast enough for moving targets.
Keeper rate is a function of expectation and acceptability. Landscape photographs need to be pin sharp (for most cases), street imo, doesn't have to be to the same extent. Keeper rate for me can change from day to day (probably due to how lazy my eye is that day), but I don't think it's any lower than any any photographers rate regardless of gear (let's just think how many photos any now famous street photographer has taken without having printed, much less published them). Sure it's hard enough without a MF 1.4 setting, and logically I should have even less, perhaps it's so, but it's a craft imo, I need to get it right using my hand and eye, not relying on an AF so it's forth it. Granted I'm no journalist or wedding photog who rely on photography on bringing home the bacon. If I was my tune might be a little bit different.
If I ever was to get a Leica rangefinder, I would not care for a fast prime, but opt for a 2.8/35 or even slower as I would use it stopped down (zone focus).
The 2nd is cracker. The man are going out of the picture
Funny you mentioned Leica. I think I mess the zone focus with pre focus in my post. I put about 3000 images since I got M9 in two month ago and decide it not for me.
Zeiss Sonnar I have has very very good wide open performance. but, I have no clue what I just captured. Image review is out of question with M9. Focus shift make it even more difficult to nail it. For the type of shooting I do, it is not for me. I am way slower than Using D700 with any manual lens. And I can't approach my subject less than 0.7m is another hang up for me.
I would love to keep it for traveling and other things, but that is too expensive to use it occasionally. I don't want offend any people with Leica. It nothing against M system, just not for me at this stage :-)
p456, IsleofGough, and many others...what is that produces the glow, the colors radiate ect. Is it the proficiency of the photographer and his perfect focusing, the lens?? thank you joanlvh
From the drawing and bokeh, I bet this is the Planar 1.4/50.
+ 1 from 1 who absolutely loves his ZF28. And the ZF21 so much wider, that makes sense to have both - given you liked the 28mm focal length so far.
Yeah, I guess you're right, Bernd. I've always enjoyed my ZF 28 so far. I've been trying to free up some cash for a Nikkor PCE 45 f/2.8 N.. it never ends

Hi and thanks again Zhangyue.
I've never used a Leica M8 or 9 so I can't relate to this problem. Is Zeiss sonnar a 50mm lens?
Why can't you use zone focus and review focus on display, isn't the display any good? Do 'slow' Leica lenses have focus shift at all (I thought they were generally very well corrected, apart maybe from the noct which is super-fast) and if you use them well stopped down shouldn't focus shift (if there is any) be negligible? Sorry, I do not quite follow you, please elaborate as I find this interesting.
I agree that a MFD of 0.7m would be a an annoyance, especially with a wider lens.

For Leica user use Zeiss ZM lens, there are some consideration: Zeiss lens is optimized use for film, thus the flange distance is slightly shorter than digital. So for fast lens as Sonnar 50f 1.5, you are not get perfect focus wide open unless you send the lens to Zeiss Germany optimize for digital. Since Sonnar is pretty much only fast lens in ZM line, other lens with more DOF may not show up this difference. Also, the earlier Sonnar is optimized at f2.8 instead of f1.5, so this also complicate thing a bit if you get it.
Review image on Leica M9 is very very very slow and LCD is crap, color is off and resolution is low. Slow down the lens certainly works, but 90% I am using wide open. Paying high premium on fast glass and use it after f4 is unacceptable. Use it wide open, I am not used to the system and just slow. That is why I'd like to say at this stage for what I prefer to shoot, it is not for me.
Enough for Leica.
Bob - Great Light Capture!
alkanphel - Seeing 3D in that one.
zhangyue - Thanks for posting some shots with the 50 Planar, i am seriously considering trading my Rokkor 58 f1.2 for that lens mainly because i prefer the way the zeiss renders skin tones.

One with my 100MP @ f2 handheld iso 1600 ( think i will go back with my tripod on this one)
Love the OOF drawing style in that street shot Ant.
Jim, the horseshoe is very arty to me, love the colors.
Maybe I have to go Zeiss ZE for a 5D2, have some RF Contax Gs to a NEX now but the handling of the FF brick is just superior. Just wonder where to start. A set of them cost like a small car, huh :-(

I think the 35 f/2 is the right one for you, considering you like Contax 28
you speak marvelous French Z ...where did you learn that (grin).
The only french I know is S'il vous plaît puis-je mettre ce limpet mine sur votre navire (another grin)
Now as a story line you need to explain 'how it is that you are hiding in the bushes' and even in English that still sounded very French to me.
