Very nice Philippe. Excellent example of realistic Zeiss rendering.
Empire: Yes, accurately focusing wide angles is a breeze with a rangefinder. The advantage decreases with focal length though and once you get into the tele range a DSLR is easier to focus. Also with the 5DII you have live view for pixel level accurate focusing - something the M9 sorely lacks.
Frequent readers of this thread might have gotten the impression that the 50/1.4 Planar is "unusable" when shot wide open at short distances. That's really not true.
Sure, if you examine the image in a 100% view, the detail sharpness is a joke. But then there is the look. I like it very much actually.
The lens works very well wide open at low light, because the pronounced spherical aberration and internal veiling flare doesn't show very much. At a couple of meters distance, sharpness is getting better too. But the bokeh is probably not everyones cup of tea.

You mean closeups look good after a couple of glasses of cognac?
Makten I agree with your assessment entirely, and I'm one of those that was slightly concerned buying into the 50/1.4 after reading about it here and elsewhere re wide open IQ. But it's been surprisingly good when I need to shoot it wide open, and certainly as good as other 1.4's I've used in terms of sharpness, but still maintaining that Zeiss rendering I love.
Luka, shot on prior page of subway tunnel with 35 Biogon is rich in atmosphere. While your wide shots of streams and harbors are gorgeous, some of your best work capturing the feeling of a scene is with the 35/2, whatever mount.
I find that Cognac makes any lens - and most women - look better.
The 85/1.4 ZE has what I think are larger sharpness issues close up than the 50/1.4 ZE. The CY 85 is not so burdened but may not perform as well at intermediate to infinity distances.
It is not really a reason to avoid the lens or aperture...just to be aware that a few feet of subject distance dramatically impact sharpness.
It's been a while guys
I only have my Pentax at the moment, so those are examples
of 100MP ZK on my K7 (still waiting for my new Pentax K5)
A little California fall colors:
Luka: Excellent shots and commentary
MJWong: Love the compositions.
Lars: Nice shots!
Martin: Great stuff with the 50/1.4. Really nice shots too!
Ryan: Great shots!
dimitris: Excellent compositions!!!
Bob: Nice shots.
Andrew: Great to see your shots on line
Philippe: Really nice shot
Martynas: Outstanding series of shots!!! Love all of them!
Incredible images everyone - Martynas, your last series is beautiful, this photo "the roots of religion" is my favorite: Is it a reflection really or a digital composite?

And, in keeping with Andrew's fall shot, one from Fontainebleau
Very nice (except for the blown out and turned cyan sky). The 28 looks good here.
Do you never do small (2 or 3 shots) panorama's? I think this one would look better slightly wider horizontally, but there is nothing that can be cropped vertically imo...
