I'm thinking ZE21, ZE50MP, ZE100MP for a Zeiss travel set and maybe ZE35
If needed.
Opinions?
I took the 21 and 50mp on a trip with me, and I felt limited at the time, wishing I had the 100 with me, but looking back I'm happy with the lenses I brought.
Samuli's chart is informative, however the difference between 50 and 100 cannot be measured with zeiss's little rectangles. The 100 is a vastly different focal length then the 50, whereas 21 and 35 are both wide lenses. And although it makes more sense on his chart to bring the 35, compositionally the 50 would be used more often if you shoot similar things while on vacation as I do.
So to be honest, I'd go 21, 50MP, 100MP.... I think if you got the 35, you'd feel you have two wides, and one tele, and you'd find yourself trying to weigh out if you should go wide and crop, or go long and try to step back. Then you'll wish you had brought a 50 with you. But that all depends on where you're going to vacation. And what you like to take photos of. Heck my next trip (big city trip, not a beach resort) I'm going to just bring all my lenses in my flipside300 bag. It can fit all 6 ZEs a body and a flash!
Great set of shots Ryan! I really like the bokeh in your shots! My favourites are #3, and #4.
Lightshow, definitely the ZE 35/2. Adam is right also, so it depends on your style. I find for travel shots, with the 35, you move in close, and get into different angles with it.
Nice shots Luka, and congratulations on your X1! Yeah, and I had the downgraded version of your grandfather's camera as my first, when I was 4 y/o.
Makten,.... what Philber says! Love your unique style.

Well, it depends how you see it; 21, 50 and 100 compo doesn't work for me, I have tried. Specially if with 50MP since it's rendering style doesn't offer anything, which isn't provided by 100MP (and better/more), just shorter focal length and phenomenons caused by focal length combined to MP features (=rough bokeh except close, largish contrast on bokeh etc.).
Shooting styles are different as well as vacations. For city holiday 2x 5DmkII + 35 & 85 (+1.4/50 & 21 not attached to body in camera-bag - for me 100 is too long or too short for city and rendering style too rough) would be optimum for me (naturally if city has arboretum or something else requiring makro then either planar is replaced with makro-planar). For other type of vacations it would be Flipside 400 full of ZE and 100ZE is definetly with me.

Charles, surprisingly small differences between planars.
Luka, your frames have found matching subject; product shots with very little colour, specially in X1 photo they work.
rsolti13, liked the fountain photo, gave some ideas. Any change seeing that boat shot in larger size? or crop?
Makten, liked the first one - proves it's just my issue not to find suitable city subjects for 100Z*
For a travel set I like to bring at least one fast lens (< f2) for low-light, night-time shooting like street markets etc.
I used my Rokkor 58/1.2 a lot on my Southeast Asia trip last fall for those scenarios.
Now with the CZ 35/1.4 I would probably bring that lens since it is so sharp wide open at 1.4 in low light and much better than my 50/1.4 wide open. Don't get me wrong, I love my 35/2 too but the 35/1.4 is more versatile for the low-light, wide-open stuff and does landscape much better than I thought it would and does the foreground-background separation better. 21,35,50,100 would be ideal, I love 35 too much to leave that behind.

The 50 mm offers twice the angle of view of the 100 mm, and half the angle of view of the 21 mm. Who can resist powers of two?
My mathematical based series is small/light from C/Y "series":
Distagon 25, Planar 50, Sonnar 100 and Tele-Tessar 200 (last only if we forget light/small...)
Waiting ZE25 and ZE200 to have mathematical ZE "series"... thou I'm flexible, 24mm and 180/250mm are OK as well...
On this trip (6 days in Spain including Barcelona and Madrid) I have 5DII+
Oly 18/3.5
Zeiss 21/2.8
Zeiss 35/1.4
Zeiss 35-70/3.4
Canon 90/2.8 TS-E.
The 35 is easily the most used lens. So versatile. I use it all the time. Second is the 21. I could probably get by with these two but the others get airtime at some occasions. Third is probably the Oly.

Leave my poor frames alone, they are beautiful for any subject!
Now as for travel lenses my first choice would definitely be 21/35 & 100. During my three weeks in Croatia I had the 21/35/50 MP & 100 with me and the least used was the 50 MP. It's a great lens, but the 35/2 is more universally practical. It's the classic street photo focal length and is excellent as such. If I had to pick just one lens to bring, it would probably be the 35. I'm not sure if it would be the 35/1.4 or the 35/2, but 35mm definitely. I would however be very unhappy if I did not have the 21 with me - which is my favorite lens and would be almost equally unhappy without the 100 MP.
The 50 MP is an excellent lens and in terms of raw performance superior to the 35/2 (sharper, closer focus etc).. but it's rather similar in style to the 100 MP (not quite as good though) and while I like 50mm for portraits, I'm not really crazy about the focal length for other uses.

You have a very good point, in Asia having a fast lens is a must. Night scenes with the lenses wide open yield some amazing shots. You really want to be running the 5DII around ISO 2000 and having some latitude, for colours and resolution at f/1.4. You do lose this somewhat with the f/2 for night scenes hand held. I have used the 50L and ZE50/1.4, and ZE 85/1.4. The best "will be" when the ZE 35 f/1.4 comes out. Night scenes with vibrant colours the fastest lens will win, usually, but I am sure I will be proved wrong.
And Samuli....haven't been ignoring you. Just got home late last night and haven't had time to mess around. Here is a before and after with crop. Seems to keep that "3D" look for the most part. I can't enlarge....the original was original size without adjustment
even though i no longer have the lens, i realized i never finished going through pics from vietnam back in March .. so here are some more that i liked (50/1.4 ZE)
I love your shots of Vietnam, teh_rebel. I notice a lot of the indoor shots were done at f/2. Really nice bokeh and feel. My favourites are #1, 3 , 4 and 5

thanks charles! yea being that the lens weakness is wide open, i stuck mostly at f2 unless i really need 1.4

Samuli
You and Denoir both shoot different vacation photos then I do for sure.
So I'm still sticking with my guns and saying one lens 50MP ZE, two lenses (would depend on where I'm vacationing but would be 21 or 100), three lenses... well you know the rest.
Anyway, Samuli, I wanted the flipside 400, but opted for the 300 because it was a smaller bag, but now I'm wondering if my stuff is to cramped.. Do you find the 400 has a lot of breathing room with your ZE glass (we both have 6+ lenses right?). The 21 is so awkward that it's hard to get it into a comfortable position in the flipside300, but it does all fit!
teh_rebel, great shots! I really like your color processing. The shots look as if they were frame grabs from a movie.
+1
I would love to know your PP for the colours of your shots. If I remember with your last shots from Vietnam, someone else asked the same question. It would seem like some subtle cross colour PP.
