If any of you would be so kind as to give some suggestions as regards photobooths, I'd appreciate it.

I've noticed that some people actually have those massive vending machine photobooths they rent, which is retarded to me, I just want to have a small ring flash set up.

But where are these things usually put, and do people usually just go to them during the course of the night? Do you have an assistant run it, or remote firing from the guests?

I appreciate any help.

I've been asked by a client if I could set up something similar. I'll probably just set up a spare camera on a tripod with a ring flash and have a pocketwizard connected to it. The guests can fire it with the PW. My only concern is leaving expensive gear setup for drunk guests to play with.

We just did one this weekend and requested that it be set up next to the dance floor, that way it's out in the open and near the action. more people use it and it's easier to keep an eye on your gear. We had 2 shooters and an assistant at this wedding so we manned it.

I have one of these planned for next year. Outdoor wedding with a barn as the backdrop for the PB. It'll be manned by both me and my assistant/wife. Probably use an AB with a grid and fire it with a Cybersync.

There is no way I would leave one of these things unmanned. At least one assistant would be a good idea.

For me;

I have a person onsite, just for this setup.

Laptop connected to Canon 40D. Using live view. The printer is a 4x6 printer (canon selphy 780.

System is triggered by guests using a foot switch. One press and you get 4 pictures, 4 seconds apart. The 4 pics are then sent to the printer as 1 4x6 print.

You get 1 row of 4 images, 2nd row is copy of the first set. So the print truly look photo booth worthy. Prints on site are free. Every push of the trigger gets 1 print.

Canon Printer 79.99
Stealth Switch 29.95
DSLR Remote Pro $95.00
Canon paper/ribbon is 29.00 bucks for 100 4x6 prints.

CoOst is up to you and how you want to set it up. 1 strobe with a softbox/umbrella/grid should be sufficient. I guess you could use 2 light if you wanted to.

Is it worth the hassle? Even if you charged a minimal amount ($250?), it would be enough to pay for a backup shooter/assistant to man it. No way would I run an unmanned setup either. I'm thinking the print sales alone might make it a very worthwhile add-on.

I can rent the setup w/photographer for 4 hours @ $700.00 from a neighboring city (including booth,photographer,prints). Charge client $800.00 - not worth my time to build/man one w/staff.

If not, I'd skip it all together. Some people have asked me about photo booths. I just tell them "that's not what I do" because, well, that's not what I do.

Thats a great setup, how do make the one press of the stealth switch take 4 pics, i would have thought one press per shot? and i guess you have to arrange the 4 images yourself on the 6x4 or is automated?

I'm building one of those big freestanding automated ones that I can rent out as well. It's a TON of investment to do it right, and a ton of time to plan/design/assemble but it will be worth it in the end.

And yes, you NEED to have someone who can work it for you if you're shooting the event too. Drunks + rowdiness + electronics = bad combo.
