Does anyone have tips on taking shots or stars, galaxies, constellations, etc? I would like to get into this type of photography but don't know where to start.
There is an awesome tutorial by Floris on our site here. I don't recall the url for it, so just use the search function and you will find it. He did a great job on it. Also there is a current thread going about Night shots, it should be on the front page and some of the shots in there included star shots.
Kudos to Jeff for some comments and posts years ago on DPR. They led me to the Kenko Sky Memo, a beautiful, easy to use tracker. I warn you though, you may find yourself sleep deprived if you start this hobby.
Also, I don't think Jeff mentioned it in his article, but if you are shooting digital you need to have a modified camera. Using a stock DSLR (other than the old 20Da) will not allow you to capture the beautiful reds present in many objects/nebulae.
