i live in NJ and I would like to go out this saturday to take pictures of the brooklyn bridge. i'm not familiar with ferries or subways so i'm thinking about driving there.
does anyone know a good spot to take pictures? and how's parking around there? and where should I put as destination on my navi?

thanks

This taken at a park under the bridge on the Brooklyn side?

Is this the angle you wanted?

Jae,

That was taken from the Brooklyn side near the Riverside Cafe. I think that area is now named "DUMBO"

Coming in from NJT, come over the Holland Tunnel and once in NYC side, follow the instructions to Downtown and Brooklyn. Look for the Brooklyn Bridge signs and and proceed over the bridge. Stay on the right, as you will be heading into the exit ramp. When you are at the exit ramp, stay the course on the right side, as the Left exit will take you into Cadman Plaza. Upon exiting out, stay within the line streetway, do not make that right turn, just go straight. You will see a left turn that will allow you to get onto the BQE Expressway, which IS not the way to. The water is directly ahead of you so just follow it directly there. As for parking, check the street signs and if in doubt there are parking facilities. Its safe there as many yuppies live in that area. If you have time, you can walk the bridge and capture the span with a good wide angle lens. Other good sights to see, is Grand Army Plaza (Civil War Arch monument) and the beginning of Brooklyn's version of Fifth Avenue. If you still have more time, visit the Greenwood Cemetery. Beautiful place, especially around this time of the year.

Good luck and have fun. I grew up in Brooklyn and know it quite well!

Evan

parking is a little hard but can be found with a little walking distance to a few good spots such as the park and the pier on the other side

IMHO, if you're driving and not pressed for time, hit both sides while your there. Anywhere along South Street Sea Port you might get lucky and find somewhere to park.

I think that particular photo was taken from the northern side of the bridge looking south-west. It was probably taken from the end of New Dock st. It might be easier to go to the Fulton ferry site, and park there. You are right in that area being referred to now as DUMBO (acronym for Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass), and that area is obviously on the northern side of the Brooklyn Bridge.

You will want your GPS set to the intersection of Plymouth St and Main St in Brooklyn, NY.

Here is the Google map for that area. Parking is a bit difficult, but if you park further away, you will find something within 3-4 blocks walking.

http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&source=hp&q=front+st+at+main+st+brooklyn+ny&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Front+St+%26+Main+St,+Brooklyn,+Kings,+New+York+11201&gl=us&ei=ecsnS7XyBoPQ8Qa407m2DQ&ved=0CAsQ8gEwAA&ll=40.704798,-73.988585&spn=0.0122,0.027208&z=16

At the intersection, to your RIGHT is Brooklyn Bridge Park. This park is open all the time.

To your LEFT is Empire Fulton Ferry Landing. It closes when it starts to get dark. The park rangers will kick you out when they close, since it is a state park.

From this location you will get fantastic views of both bridges.

If you are willing to venture on to the Manhattan island... (parking much more difficult). Then you might try the intersection of Fulton St and South St. There you will find the South Street Seaport, which is full of shops, like a mini-shopping mall, with nice restaurants and such.

The views of the bridges are quite nice there.

Wow, for some reason I find your thirds pictures amazing! It really holds my attention. It reminds me of the third Matrix movie, where Neo fights Agent Smith for the last time in the abbandoned city in the rain. Cool!

Your other pics are very nice too, but I like #3 best.

I have taken this picture in Washington Street, on Brooklyn side.

See the google map link posted by leungphotograp, you can see where is Washington street.

You get in this street, the alignment between the bridge foot et the empire state building.

A nice spot !

So, excuse me for my "bad" english
