p.1 #1 · Any chipped 3rd party batteries for 1DMK3?
Does anyone make a 3rd party LP-e4 battery that is chipped so it works with the Canon charger and does not generate communication errors when inserted in the camera? I will probably never need it but I want one just in case Murphy strikes my Canon battery dead.

I use the Maximalpower brand LP-E6, works as well as the Canon (original charger, communicates with the camera). Available from Amazon.
I ordered this battery from Amazon and did not get a Maximalpower LP-E6. They shipped a Synergy as per the description. The Synergy is not chipped.

The LP-E6s mentioned above are for 5DII / 7D NOT for the 1DIII.
FWIW, the third party batteries for 1DIII (LP-E4) work well Jerry; don't know why the alternatives to the LP-E6 don't on the 5DII / 7D. Canon must've used some protocol mangling for the batteries' comm protocol.
I have a feeling the next time they change the batteries on the 1D series cameras, there won't be any third party alternatives.

I picked up two of the Calumet LP-E4's when they were on sale a few weeks ago for $19.99 each. They charge fine in the original Canon charger and communicate their charge level to my 1Ds3. Unfortunately they're back to their normal $99 price now.
