Here's a Bobcat shot from a couple of weeks ago.
The first is presented "as shot" with him walking down a slope.
The second is the same shot fixed to straighten out the horizon line with canvas added.
The first is the more "honest" shot, but the second is the more 'artistically" acceptable.
Nice capture Ken,
But can you flip horizontal so he's going up hill, clone out the little branch by his front paw add blue sky and clone in a running Coot?
I voted for the second one, but I can see it either way. The diagonal makes it a little more dynamic. Contrast and color look better on the first one. A fine image either way though.
I'm going to go with as shot as well. There are many times I find I have to make two versions of a shot.
This is one of these occasions for you. And I actually like them both. But I also fine I like trying to stay true to nature.... or to what environment the subject was photographed in.
I like the second one better. When I looked at the first one, my eyes were drawn
to the cat's rear end that is very close to the frame. If the cat had an eye contact with you, it would've been different. I feel more comfortable in viewing the second image. Nonetheless, you had a great encounter with a Bobcat and you didn't miss the opportunity to capture it.
Ken I think your second version is the more viewable of the pair. Not that there is anything wrong with the first. Its just that the second is easier on the eye. Nice shot either way though. Take care & thanks for showing. Bob
As they are presented, I prefer the second one...but... I think that the issue with the first one is not so much the angle, but the lack of space behind and above the bobcat; especially the top right corner. IF you can fix that, I am sure I will like the #1 better.
I think the first one is more dramatic Ken.
It looks brighter and with greater detail too.
I voted for that one!
Great shots though, both of them!

i like my horizons leveled. i don't feel that the slope/angle of the 1st shot added much to the composition. i like how you added the extra canvas on top. nice post processing work ken.
I think the "as shot" is much nicer, has a more natural feel to the paw and leg positions that the flattened one doesn't have
I really, really like the first shot
Lar
First off, this is a wonderful shot, Ken; congratulations. These guys are never "easy". Although you did a great job with the canvas and horizon in #2, the downhill stride that he was on gives his legs "compression" and angle that look just a tad off. I think if you added the canvas to #1, it would be killer. JMHO....Mitch
Edit--I've basically echoed what Larry's said right above me. Guess I didn't scroll down far enough to see it...Oops.
A nice shot Ken. When we go downhill we assume a posture that prepares us, or animals for that movement, and we assume a different posture when we go uphill, and they are different when we walk straight. So I prefer the first although you did a great job on #2.
