My family and I spent 16 days in Ireland in the 80s. It rained every day but as the say, "It was a soft rain". It was by far the most memorable of all our family vacations. There were only two days when it rained all day. Enjoy!

Rain rain rain.....If you're lucky, warm rain.
I second that. But that shouldn't keep you from going there. You just might be lucky ...and there's always B&Bs to warm you up and get you dry

And excellent pubs!!!! Don't forget the pubs!
the best time to go is in may, when the kids are doing their exams, its usually the best weather of the year in ireland. but you cant predict irish weather so be prepared for rain and if you get sunshine make the most of it.
if you want to do landscape photography, go to connemara, by far my favorite area in ireland and the most picturesque. i have a lot of photos from ireland on my website, feel free to have a look , it will give you an idea. http://www.pierreleclerc.com/photo_gallery.html
have a good trip, i hope you get some good weather.
the weather in Arpil should be FINE for the last two years 2008 and 2009
May has been the best month with warm fine weather.
Around the coastlands are the best for mountains the midlands are more flat.
There more or less a few must visit places,
County Wicklow in the East near Dublin is nicknamed the "Garden County" it has a beautiful rugged wildness
to it.
West Cork and West Kerry are simply outstanding on the south west coasts.
County Clare on the West coast has a 50 Sq Kilometre protected limestone landscape area which will be beautiful in the early months of the year.
County Galway and Mayo the area I live in is magical also. The landscapes of Connemara on the west coast are brilliant, the weather changes quickly around here like most of the west coast I suppose, the area is vast with Mayo and Galway being in the top 10 largest counties in the Country.
County Donegal in the north west corner of the country is well worth a visit also.
It all depends on the time you have and how much travelling you want to do.
And all these places are absolutely beautiful . . . when its fine . . .when its raining its a different story !
My website is mostly of Connemara and The Burren in counties Galway and Clare.
OK you've got the message about the rain! But you can be lucky also, and that time of year recently, as a couple of people have said, has not been that bad recently. Just come prepared for anything!! If you're here for 17th March don't forget to get to a St Patrick's day festival or two! And the Dingle Peninsula in Kerry is one of my favourite places anywhere in the world.
