I recently returned from several days in New Mexico, where a respiratory bug curtailed most of my shooting. Sniff. Anyway, this is a view near what Georgia Okeeffe considered one of her most inspiring subjects . She called the flat topped massif in the distance Pedernal, and seemed to give it mystical powers. Seemed less than truly inspiring to my eye, but hey, I'm only a photog. That's some fairly difficult light to work with given the haze that obscures the details in the distance. I like the warm earth tones in the foreground and wish the scene had a little more of the pinion/juniper grassland we can see just off to the left of the tree. In the color image that has a nice depth feel given the light. I do like the color image overall much better given the increased contrasts of the vegetation.

A very pleasing shot , Tim , and I very much like the subdued colour palette --- especially the contrast between the earth browns and the blue-grey sky . The colour version works best for me , too . Hope you're fully recovered now .
I'm surprised you were able to shoot at all after hearing how sick you guys really were (are) with that being said you have a very cool takeaway here really like they comp and the feeling of open vastness, the color palette is just gorgeous
Hello Tim, hope you are feeling better. Love the sense of space and quiet in the scene, No surprise, I prefer the color version too. Maybe a bit more light on the dark end of the histogram for the BW version? In any event thanks tor sharing the view.
Thanks for commenting everyone. Georgia Okeefe was an interesting artist. Her intoxication with the spare scenery around this area is intriguing. I did go up the next canyon to the North and west of Ghost Ranch, and found many more interesting vistas there, including the Chama River. When Ms. Okeefe found Ghost Ranch, in the 1920's it was already a "dude ranch" and ready made for her.
