p.1 #1 · How much retouching is too much....

Do you remove crows feet, and every spot and wrinkle? Or do you go for photographic accuracy (what you see is MOSTLY what you get)? And if you do remove every wrinkle and blemish on the bride, do you do it for each and every image? Or just the bridals and formals?

In the case of the last wedding, that would make over 200 images with the bride in them alone. That's alot of extensive retouching.....

Depending on how you photograph you can take care of this in camera and alot of that stuff becomes a non-issue.

For the policy-minded we will remove blemishes but not something that is a part of them (birth marks, scars) unless requested. If we have someone who has a skin-issue we will adjust how we light it and how we photograph it to minimize those issues. Otherwise we retouch every image before the client sees it, but we compensate ourselves for that upfront.

The contract states that we will remove minor blemishes, including uneven skin, and distracting wrinkles/extra skin on the face/arms......

Album shots get the full treatment. Proofs and anything else get the basics.

yup.

this is best done in your consultation before the wedding and NOT after the fact. because regardless of how nicely you address it, all she's going to hear is: hey bride. you're a wrinkled hag. what do you want me to do about it, huh?

TRR was right on when he talked about learning how to use light and angles to minimize flaws in camera - but since this one is already shot, remove blemishes, minimize wrinkles so that she looks like an even more gorgeous version of herself and not a plastic figurine.

absolutely share some before and after shots here before you share them with the client. you'll get great feedback, and have a happy bride. and from this point on, build a small chat about your standard retouching process into your consult.

best of luck.
