is it just me or are these gels just to bleedy short......
just bought a pack when i was in calumet
using a 580ex mk1 stuffed in nova 22 softbox
how the feck are you supposed to mount these skittery small things ....... i hate fiddling should be quick n easy
1 there too short to stick velcro on the ends
2 there to narrow to fold a slot to jam under wide angle screen thing .
3 sellotape yeah right can see me on location trying not to get the tape stuck to every thing bar the filter
as a stop gap measure i jammed them in to an old stofen that i had cut the end off
but i aint buying an other stofen just to cut the arse out of it
cheaper to just buy sheets of full size gel and make them the right size and fit velcro on the ends
going to make a pair of 3d glasses n throw the rest in the bin
right wheres the link for roscos complaints department
Did you get the specific strobist gels or did you purchase the sample pack? I know they are selling both at the moment but I don't know if there is a difference. The sample pack was not originally intended to be used as a flash gel so it doesn't fit all flashes. Personally I would get a gel holder, they seem to work ok. http://www.mpex.com/browse.cfm/4,13750.html
yeah it was the strobist pack
i didnt think they would be so small
had a look at filter holder probably the way to go ......
going to have a go with a diy version think a clear cd slieve n gaffers tape might do ..
You're making this too hard. On my monolights I simply tape them in place. On my SB flash I bought a bunch of diffusor domes from DealExtreme or someplace for a couple of bucks each, and cut them up to make gel holders. I also made some grids that fit inside the frame. If you want something even easier, buy the sheets of gels and cut them to size. Put a wide rubber band around your flash heads and tuck the gel strip under it on two sides. Remember to make the strip bow out a bit or you'll melt it. Fast, easy, cheap.
Here's how the standard Rosco sampler pack fits on my SB-600, SB-900, and 580EX. It fits the SB-900's huge lens just fine with room to spare on the sides if you want to use velcro dots instead.
If you do tape these on, be sure to pace yourself while you are shooting. The flashhead will get hot enough to melt the gel, discoloring the lens. I speak from experience -- unfortunately.
Try one of these http://gelholder.com/gelholder/
Best $10 I ever spent. If you don't want to affix velcro to the speedlight try a Honl Speedstrap which is about the same price.
