Hi,

Not a flash genius I'm getting into it and hope you guys can help me clear a hurdle.

I have a 50D and a 580EX (not the EXII)

Looking to enable and use 2nd curtain sync in the 50D menu in "Flash Control" under the External Flash C.Fn setting camera I get the,
"This menu cannot be displayed. Incompatible flash or flashes power is turned off." (The flash is on.)

In the External flash funct. setting the Flash Mode E-TTL II, Shutter sync. 2nd curtain, and FEB are grayed out. The Flash exp.comp and E-TTLII Evaluative or Average settings are accessible.

If I just put the 580EX in E-TTL mode and choose the >>> button it seems to work but now I am insecure about what I am doing.

I have the 50D and the 580EX manual .pdf's up now reading and my email program up hoping for a reply from here as I sort them out.

The 580ex is not controllable from camera menu. Only the mkII models can do that.

Set 2nd curtain on the flash using the button in the middle between mode and zoom with the >>> symbol. See p. 26 of the 580ex manual.
