specifically did you set the zoom on the flash to match your focal length, and how
much under exposed did you set the flash (-1 EV or similar?).

You have wonderful sharp photos with subtle flash exposure that filled the shadows while letting the natural highlights come out. This is the way it’s supposed to be done. I looked at your exif data and could not read the flash setting. I’m suspecting you used the wonderful TTL-BL of the Nikon CLS. If you did this the old way dialing in flash compensation or using manual flash my complements to you as the results are spot on.
The black backgrounds create very dramatic images. Some would prefer to see the background come through. For me this is fine.
