I use LR for cataloging, cropping, and printing, but I can't get the develop module to produce results that I can easily get in NX2. For example I recently took some pics of my daughter to try my new SB900. In NX2 I took under 5 min to adjust ("as shot" wb, portrait mode, adjust white, black, and mid points, add light noise reduction, select eyes to brighten and sharpen). Then I imported the TIFF into LR3 to crop and catalog. When I tried to match results with NEF in LR3 I can't even come close on color, skin smothness, touch up of blemishes, and overall "smooth" look. Samples are below. I posted the original NEF file at public.me.com/rob.jt if any LR gurus want to process it and post their adjustments it would help me greatly.
Would you mind posting what settings you used? Particularly color and anything you did to smooth the skin out. If I can figure out what I'm missing it would really help. I agree my original was too warm when I look at it now... Thanks.
I used the brush 3 times. Once on the forehead with clarity at -100. Once on the eyes with +35 contrast and one on the whole face with an exposure bump.
Thanks very much for the help Gordon. I usually shoot sports where PP isn't a big deal, so I'm learning. One extra question, how did you figure out the correct WB? Whas it just from experience or did you use something in the photo with the auto selector?
Rob
I used "auto" white balance as a start point and tweaked a bit from there. Personally I find with LR "as shot" as a start for natural light and "auto" as a start for indoors/mixed light.
