Hello all
In May I will be shooting for a couple whose reception plan kicks off with jousting each other in full wedding attire and then jumping in the bounce house. Guests can bounce or dance or both.
Sounds fun. I shot my kids in a bounce house... so that it about the extents of my experience there... I would imagine you are going to want to go wide angle, wide aperture, and get close to the net (assuming they have the net to keep the riders in) otherwise you will have a bunch of pics of a black nylon mesh.
I also shot my kid and her friends in a bouncer and my best results came when using a wide angle lens while being inside the bounce with them. I just ended up positioning myself in the corner while braced against the bouncer. The stand alone bouncers usually are surrounded by either the inflatable or mesh netting so it may be difficult getting clean shots from outside the bouncer. Have fun!
I shoot my kids all the time in those things. It's fun but I have yet to grab an amazing picture. There is so much color cast and it's worse when you use a flash. Another great shot would be a PJ shot of the 100's of guest surrounding this bouncy house with blurred action of the B&G on the inside.
I've gotten some great pics of the kids in mid-air with HUGE grins and hair extended towards the sky. It can be done but I think your best chance will be from inside.
Super fast shutter speed and inside the bounce house for sure. Trying to shoot through the net is miserable. Being inside with folks (if you're allowed) would be best. You might want to contact the company in advance as the on-site help won't know what their insurance coverage would tolerate and therefore may be hesitant to let you in with gear. Best to get permission from the owner in advance.
Thanks for the pix. I see what you mean about getting in, and the color looks great It made me think about dof, too. I tend to shoot more open, but I think having a smaller aperture, as you do in these photos would help with oof issues(?) I shoot with a 50D, and would be curious to know the settings you used.
Hmmm maybe it's a growing trend? Are they doing an after-bounce joust? lol, my couple is planning on it, they rented an inflatable joust thingy, too.
