p.1 #1 · Image Stacking software?

Hi Everyone,

What would be a good not-too-expensive program for stacking photos (particularly star trails)? Does Element 8 have stacking capability?

Thanks for you help in advance,
Eli

If you mean focus stacking, CombineZP is a really good free program.

I actually mean exposure stacking, where you might combine a few short exposures to create a synthetic long exposure. I'm not sure what it is called though.

i presume, yet still you have not read that link in the nikon forum yet?
do you have PS cs3/4? that has the feature of stack images and auto align. just change the blend mode to lighten.
the software you where looking for is http://www.startrails.de/html/software.html but again, read MY post in the nikon forum. you will still have gaps beacsue of the lighten blend mode. look at that tutorial. if the PP is too much work, then look elsewhere!

please, read what people have posted, now three times

Thanks for that link. I think that is what I am looking for. No, I don't have photoshop CS, unfortunately. I read that article about star trails but it is mostly stuff I already know, and the post-processing part uses photoshop CS, which doesn't help me much since I don't have it. I actually did read that post on star trails when it was first posted. It IS a great article.

P.S. I'm going to have some amazingly low noise images! It is -15 F outside now, and colder at night.

I tried downloading registax but it was so complicated I couldn't figure it out. I think it is more for stacking similar images to create one sharp image, not for stacking a bunch of short exposures to form a long synthetic exposure (like I want). And if it can do that too, I haven't figured out how to do it.

Thanks to everyone for your help. I downloaded star trails software and it works very well. Nice, simple and very effective. Does just what I want and some more!
