p.1 #1 · Profoto grids

I recently bought a Profoto grid to fit to my Acute/D4 head and zoom reflector, utilising my barn doors.

The trouble is there is spill around the edges of the reflector when attached - it does not fit snug. In fact, it is kind of loose in the barn doors, and almost ready to fall right out. This and the spill of light seems poorly designed. It is the correct size grid for the set up. Maybe there is some trick to putting it into the barn doors I am not aware of.

Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Nick

I didn't buy Profoto's grids, but could you get some gaffers tape and wrap it around the edge of the grid to fill it out a little? That should work.

Sure, I have done that with grids previously, but it leaves a residue, and would be a shame with a mint grid if I had to sell it.
What are you using?

I've got an assortment of Calumet, Speedo, and AB grids. I'd recommend just getting the new Zoom or a grid reflector, unless you got that setup to use the barndoors on top of your grids.

I think you are right. I will have to get the new zoom reflector.
Thanks for the advice, Bacilonur.

Gaff-taping the edge of a grid will actually leave quite a lot of residue, as those babies get hot. I'd expect the tape to eventually melt.

I believe the standard Profoto Grid Reflector is also a 7" model, as opposed to the new Zoom reflector and the matching grids (which are something like 7-2/3", right?) - just make sure that you've got the correct matching of grids and reflector. I use the Grid Reflector with Speedotron 7" grids as they also fit my Hensel heads.

Double +1 on that.
