Have you thought about darkening the background more to get more depth and tonal separation?

Scott - thanks for the compliment. I had not thought of darkening the background as I did not find if distracting, but I'm always willing to try new approaches and will play.

I like the gritty feel of this photo. B&W really brings out the textures in the wood. I agree with Scott that it might be a good idea to darken the background (area in top-left corner), but I would do it in a separate layer so as to not darken the foreground any further. Problem will be masking around the plant/foliage.

Nice shot, and I agree with the darkening of the background...but on the revised version, I might back off a few clicks. Looks a little too dark, but that's just me.

And its an excellent image so I think the extra time to tweak it further is worth it.
