p.1 #1 · Diving Birds

Hi everyone! I'm trying to photograph some pelicans that dive to get their fish. Assuming that you're using IS mode; do you put that in 1 or 2 setting if you have the camera in portrait orientation. I know that # 2 is for panning but if you're are tracking the bird vertically is it like "panning down / tilting?"

Your suggestion would be much appreciated and I'm sorry if I'm posting this in the N&L forum; I figured there are more experts here at capturing wildlife photos.

Thanks,
Voltaire

I'd try it both ways and also in the OFF position if you can get SS up around 1/1000th.
You can practice on leaves falling, then the Peli will be a piece of cake
^^ dead serious!

Thanks Trench! I appreciate it. I had it at 1/1250. I also tried all 19 points for AF (7D) but it slowed down the focusing even more. Just observing them, it seems like this peli dives in the same area so I'm thinking of maybe pre-focusing ahead of time to anticipate. I'll post some later on; it isn't tack sharp at all but its my best take on it prior to my post.
